just curious, what are the benefits of the Sea and Sea strobes?

They are just different strobes - Sealife makes some good strobes.

Maybe one of the better features on a Sea & Sea strobe is they recycle faster (That is they can fire again in 2 seconds where I think the Sealife can take about 7 seconds)

I thought about buying the extensions, but I just wasn't happy with the dual strobes on the plastic trays. It was too flimsy and looked like it was a pieced together system. So for about the same price I upgraded to the Ikelite tray setup. I took it out last weekend for it's first dive, visibility was poor and the current was ripping so I didn't get many good shots but... It was everything I hoped the upgrade would be, it looks great, much more stable, the added length to the strobes from being mounted on the handles allows them to be positioned great for macro and it is pretty neutral for buoyancy. The strobes being positively buoyant and the tray being negatively buoyant help position it well in the water!

I am taking a photography class this weekend, I hope it helps improve my shots a bit. Here are a few from the weekend, not very impressive, but I had fun!!!

This loggerhead picture came out very odd, but it has a cool shadow effect.

These guys were over 6 feet long, but everyone chased them off before I could get a close up

After getting a few pointers from Walt Stearns I got some better pictures last weekend. Still need a lot of work, but I am happy with them thus far.
Strobe placement and power level seems to be pretty challenging.

Curious how your setup is holding up and if you have any opinions (good or bad) after having it for nearly a year. I have the same camera, strobes, and fisheye on the standard tray. Considering purchasing the ikelite setup for the same reasons you mentioned. Also, any noticable difference in your strobe performance with the added height/width.

spitt6654 I also have the DC1400 and just ordered the new Dragon flash and video light and I curious how you attach your rig to your BCD? I see in the original photo a blue strap wrapped around the tray and then a coiled connector, I suspect you clip this to your BCD and then clip and unclip it as required - do you use any type of wrist lanyard? how do you giant stride into the water (with the camera or without?) on boat dive, when you are getting back on do you unclip the whole rig and pass it up?

The reason I ask is that sometimes you need both hands (say when trying to get back on the boat from a drift line) and I am wondering how stable the rig is clipped with only 1 clip?
