The backplate and wing cheerleaders will talk about how adaptable a BP/W system is. However, when you talk to most of them they will admit that they have multiple wings and plates (as do I). For cold water diving you need a lift between 30 - 40 lbs, for tropical a lift between 20 - 30 lbs would be ideal. So to do both you are looking at a wing in the 30 lb lift range. Note: because you wear 34 lbs dry you will need to move some weight to your belt because the rig won't float without you in it.

If you are happy with the Ranger, my advice is to keep it and purchase a travel BC. Leisure Pro (and maybe Beaver Divers) has the LightHawk on sale for $200. This would probably be your least expensive route.

I would not purchase a Zeagle plate and harness because they are not a good value, other plates are less expensive. If you use this you should be able to use your wing on another manufacturer's plate, if you decide to go that route.

Truth.
