Very interesting--I hope there's enough viz tomorrow night to see'em. Of course, all those lights in the water may have'em waaay confused as to day/nite!

I'm NOT jet, but sometimes I wish I had her new cam and housing! Check viz with the 2 stores when you call to sign up, someone may have gone this morning!

LOL. Thanks Jim. As far as viz, I heard 15-20 ft today but I'm not confident in my source. I will try to have something more definitive before everyone heads up there tomorrow night.

Viz this morning was 10 ft at best, very dirty, particulate-filled water. Temp 81. Lots of jellies of all kinds - including the below. They are all up & down the water column so you have to watch where you're going. Not a terrible wallop but if it gets exposed skin there is a bit of a zap.

Sorry this was the best I could do with photos today. I am between prescription masks so diving with AARP eyes.

Thanks for the report but that is a bummer. I think I will skip the night dive this time and try again next time....

I think this may be a barred blenny, juvenile, and is dark colored because it was nighttime..

maybe a pygmy seabass?

no idea on the nudi, the second is not a blenny, its a juvenile of something but not a blenny, the last one is a mushroom scorpionfish

Thanks. On the bottom photo, my first thought was that it's a scorpionfish of some sort, however, the REEF ID book identifies it as a pygmy seabass, so I am going with that.
The middle photo I am leaning towards a seabass also, maybe a juvenile black seabass.
the top, I am told is a doto_____________.. but haven't found it yet in my books.

Haven't gotten an ID on the 2nd fish but the picture will help,
3rd is mushroom scorpionfish (barb fish),
nudie is a doto of some kind, hopefully someone will weigh in...
and our mystery fish that I thought was a black version short fin big eye:idk:
ta da: a juvenile spade fish????
ID complements of Rob Meyers (Thanks!) who asks a great question.
How come we see dime sized (or pea sized in this case) juveniles but rarely any intermediate juvenile sizes, only adult spadefish?
I saw one that was a little larger than my hand once that was obviously a tweener but considering how many adults are around east bridge only one in all those dives is weird.
Where do they hide between fry and adult versions?
Heard was not very good conditions last night.
If any one goes today a report would be great.
John

What a wonderful way to start off the day!

We went snorkeling at the Blue Heron Bridge this morning. We had 15-20ft viz, warm water, x2 batfish, a yellow stingray, juvenile angelfish, sea cucumbers and 6 spotted eagle rays.

We hope to see you all tonight for our Underwater Carved Pumpkin Contest and BHB Night Dive!
