There's no focus and there's no macro. The lens is made so that "everything" is in focus, with "everything" meaning everything at a certain distance and beyond. Anything closer will be blurry. I don't know that particular distance, but some googling brought up 12 inches. It might be different under water though.

I think it's possible to do macro by adding a diopter lens.

There are quite a few macro lens options available for the GoPro. Most of them being 55mm lenses used with an adapter but be careful, 55mm lenses, macro or not, may cause vignetting if not adapted to a lower profile for the GoPro. Many of the 55mm lens options designed specifically for GoPro avoid this.

Cool79, welcome to the world of GoPro.

Stick with your G12 if you want to miss out on many many opportunities for pole-cams and yes, the GoPro with proper lenses add-ons can focus within 1-2 inches with the right Diopter lens.

Do a search on these boards, Macro has been thoroughly discussed in depth.

In the mean time, you might check out Snake River products that will fit all your needs for filters and close-up macro. Top Quality Equipment.

that means when I would need to refocus, I would need to end the clip and start a new clip?

If you want to make it easy get a Backscatter 3.1 flip housing with the 55mm adapter and a Macro lens.

It makes switching from macro to normal a breeze. You could even add a 2nd 55mm adapter for a 2nd lens or red filter and alternate between them or none. I would buy the lenses/filters from SRP. Their optics are superb.

what i meant was, you are currently filming the subject at 10m, then after that, you would like to film another subject which is 1 to 2m away from you. Do you need to start a new clip, as it will re-focus?

I do not think a dip lens will help right?
