Ok, so I'm thinking about replacing my old split fins and going back to the paddle style.

Here is what I'm looking for..'

1) BRIGHT..my old ones are bright yellow and I find it helps my newly met dive buddies on liveaboards recognize me quickly
2) Maneuverability...not as interested in speed and power, more interested in a fairly short fin that allows me to work in close
3) Positive buoyancy...I know most look for neutral, I prefer positive as it keeps my feet up and head down a bit
4) Light weight wouldn't be bad either

Any help is greatly appreciated as always =)

I cant speak for all the specs you listed but the mares volo power and the new Xtreme both got really good reviews...the volo power in particular.... im interested in hearing from others too.I am rocking an old pair of dacor turbo flex and some UDT duck feet as my back up pair so I might need to modernize as well lol.

Agree, nice fins but unfortunately Avantis are neither light (relatively speaking), positively buoyant or short.

To the OP, Have you had a look at Force Fins? On paper ticks all your boxes.

I have...but not in a while. Thank you for the reminder. They would be ideal if they're any good...they always seem like they won't work.

It seems people either love them or hate them. I've always wanted to try a pair but where I live there are over $300 so not so keen to take that gamble.

I hear ya Buddha...it's strange spending that kind of money on something that looks dubious without having the ability to return it if you don't like it. But, if they work as advertised, then def worth the price and all the reviews I see seem to say they are as good as they sound.

Opinions from anyone currently using them?

I recently went from my tried and true Jetfins to a split fin for the first time. All I can say is I should have tried sooner. I never would have thought that the jetfin put so much strain on my ankle till trying something else. I now have oceanic vortex v12 fins.

I hesitate posting but I just got a pair of Aeris Accel fins and they only miss 1½ of your criteria. They are neutral and don't come in bright yellow. They do have colorful accent straps though and come in grey so your new buddies could still ID you. They are short (easily fit carry-on) and light. Best of all there is no performance penalty. I tested them against my Velocity 3X's and they compared favorably.

I use Force Fins exclusively. But I do have several pairs and find that there are times each style has it's advantages. Both the Excellerators and the Hockeys are the most versatile - but they are a little heavier and larger. Unfortunately neither are currently available and there is only one pair of bright yellow Hockeys (and I own them) and the yellow for the Excellerators is sort of dull.

I believe that the Pro Force Fins are about to be available in Yellow and if you like to frog kick, you will need to modify your method some to make them work.

Any of the Force Fins will be easy on your legs and ankles and outperform splits (from a former Bio Fin user).

By the way, Bob does offer a money back guarantee if you order them directly. It may seem like a lot of $$$ - but there are still lots of Force Fins in use after 30 years on the market - so it is sort of "buy it once" type of purchase.
