I'm going to be in Jacksonville until next Tuesday and was hoping to get a local dive in while I am there. Just looking for a simple day dive, really. Any suggestions on shops or dive sites?

Ask for my friend Bob at Atlantic Pro Dive, He'll hook you up with anything you need for rentals and get you on the boat. If you want to lionfish hunt he'll be glad to show you how.

I'm a Jax native, now in the Keys. Here are several suggestions:

Scott Evans: http://www.scubajax.com

Chris Conrad: http://www.scubalessonsjax.com

And Dive Source in St. Augustine: The Dive Source / Diving Gear and Trips in Jacksonville and St. Augustine / Full Service Dive Shop

The first two are independent instructors, I believe Chris might still run a dive boat. They are both well informed and connected in the local diving up in Jax.

Dive Source does have a 6-pack charter run by Capt Frank Timmons.

I DM'd for Chris's classes about a decade ago. Dove with Scott just last week. I've also know Frank since my ex & I had dive charter boats at his marina years ago.

Tell them I said hi!
Be prepared for long rides out of shore to the dive sites, thermoclines and the diving is usually deep-ish.

Your other option is to head to Gainesville/High Springs to dive Ginnie Springs or drift the Santa Fe. Contact Cave Country Dive Shop by sending a PM to Cave Chick or Capt Jim Wyatt for gear, guides, advice, etc.
