DandyDon. What airlines are you looking at? I guess I should have mentioned 2 things:

1. we only fly direct with our dive gear
2. we don't fly through the USA

So that leaves us only with Air Canada and Westjet.

:D

I'm looking at flights to Tahiti right now and it's $2300.00 per person to get you to one of the outlying islands for the best diving. Basically about $1800 to get you to Tahiti and then almost another $500 for a 50 minute flight to another island.

Which island are you trying to get to and who quoted you that fair? If Rangi or Fakarava the fair quoted is double what Air Tahiti Nui charge on their online booking site. The $500 you were quoted is ludicrous..an Air Tahiti Nui tuomoto atoll airpass which I then added Bora Bora onto cost me $670 tahiti > bora bora > rangiroa > fakarava > tahiti. $1800 to get you there is a good price, from my end of the world base fare in low season is $2450.

Sure, those two stipulations are reasonable, altho it helps if you mention them. I just looked at the month of RT fares; some are non-stop and some aren't. You still not state dates so I guess you don't care...?

Austin to CZM through Houston for May 4-15 ran me $538 a couple of days ago.

Hey Don, what site do you use to search for the lowest rates during the month? I'm trying to get down for a week late July/early August, dates not crucial, would be nice to search for the lowest over a span of time.
Thanks!

Matrix - ITA Software

When I check Springfield MO to CZM, exactly 7 nights, then uncheck overnight itineraries...

Springfield is always crazy high, I only fly out of there when my local shop gets a group deal. I always end up flying out of Tulsa or Fayetteville when going on my own, and I will surely be checking matrix, thanks!
I looked at other airports around you and even Tulsa wouldn't save enough for the drive. Now driving to Kansas City and flying to Cancun does get it down to $416.

Try getting to Coz from Seattle - CaCHING!! Since I don't have the time or wherewithal to drive, there it is, take it or leave it. Bottom line, it's my choice to go to Cozumel instead of Hawaii or Baja. The one thing I will continue to complain about is, for the cost (and it's GOT to be close to profitable at these prices!), the complete lack of comfort and customer service. As choices of carriers dwindle, they're really taking advantage. Five or more hours of sitting straight up, with NO legroom is really starting to wear on my 'mature' body. The physical abuse may start to determine my vacation planning more than the cost.

$681 for that far seems reasonable. It does seem silly to fly you completely across the country to NC before flying you to Coz, but it works.
