I am scheduled to dive next weekend in West Palm Beach. I am wondering if any of you Floridians have seen storms like this come through and wondering what vis will most likely be like? Is it guarantted to be bad from your experience or will these storms even affect it?
Not a Floridian, but in 2005 Hurrican Dennis came by Key Largo and righted the 510 foot long USS Spiegel Grove that had been sunk as an artificial reef. The ship sank prematurly and was resting on its side in 130 feet. Originally it was upside down, and efforts to right it only got it on its side, they could not get it upright. But nature did.

So I am thinking that if a storm can right a ship sitting in 130 feet of water, visibility is going to be bad after hurricane or a tropical storm for a while. How long, don't know, my local waters after a storm with 10 foot waves it is about a week or so. Estimates of Hurrican Dennis waves at the Spiegel Grove was 20 feet. Just a thought.

Bottom line - If you go visibility will be terrible, if you don't go, it will be spectacular at 100+ feet of crystal clear. At least that is my experience. You have to go see.

You think like I do! LOL

We got a ton more rain this afternoon. Flooding is significant in pretty large areas. They are going to be dumping nasty freshwater now for a week or more. We were forecast for 3-4 inches and got more than 10 I think.

I think that Dumpster is giving you sound advice.
Our visibility will be horrendous for at least two months, in Pompano.
Not even mentioning the um...lobster situation, in Pompano.
Do not even THINK about Pompano.
You ought to go elsewhere.....as viz will be pretty good by Sunday for sure....everywhere...but Pompano.
But if you insist on coming to Pompano and getting skunked on bugs...
send me a PM and you can join me on a six pack for some crummy diving, in bad viz, with no bugs...in Pompano.

Really Pompano will be the hardest hit.

Chug
Thinks you ought to avoid Pompano.

We are coming down to west palm either way the trips is already paid for. What would be a better dive for Sun? A charter or the BHB? We have a car so we could even drive north if it would be any better?

Ocean!
But if you are bugging...not Pompano.

Chug
Looking forward to Sunday and Monday.

I am coming either way as my trip is pretty much already booked and paid for. I am not supposed to dive until Friday in WPB so maybe it will be okay by then. You know what they say, "a bad day of diving is better than a good day at work"

Pretty Calm out today, but the viz looks crappy.
