Though I don't dive with her often due to inconvenience, my recommendation would be to contact Alison Dennis (Scuba with Alison) and see if she can accommodate you. She and her captain Carlos are perfectly suited to your needs and can show you a great time. RC docks at International Pier/SSA Mexico, so meeting her at the nearby Caleta marina is not inconvenient for you!

That is true..... :cheerleader::cheerleader::cheerleader: We leave late for cruisers, too.

Me and my wife have been diving for awhile but our kid just turned 16 and got certified. Time for her first Dives. I want her to start out with some shallow easy Dives. Where would you guys recommend going in Coz and with whom to dive?

We have dove with Blu Angle in the past only and were fairly happy. They emailed us back saying their dives will be around 80-90ft and im not really wanting our daughter diving that deep.

Ideas?

Hi,
I just wanted to contact you regarding this issue. My name is Matthew Atkins, I am the head of training at Blue Angel. I have spoken with the diveshop manager, as well as our reservations department that sent you the information. I believe there may be some confusion regarding some of the information. The first dive on the 11am boat can, on occasion reach a maximum depth of 80ft. That having been said, in my experience 60 - 70 ft is much more likely, and shallower when appropriate. As has been suggested, if you choose to dive apart from the rest of the group, whether that is significantly shallower or deeper, we would require a private divemaster to go with you for your safety, and as is required by the Marine Park. Our private divemasters are all instructors or assistant instructors, so you have not only an excellent guide, but also a wealth of information and help at your disposal.

I know you have dived with us before, and we are very interested in having you back. I'm sure that we can work out an arrangement that will work out for you, our other 11am customers, and our desire to make sure you are well cared for in the water. Please feel free to contact me personally at blueangeltraining@gmail.com or 780-651-1712 to see what we can do to help.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
Matthew Atkins

p.s. I have also contacted you through a private message

My husband I dove with Scuba with Alison while we were visiting on the Carnival Dream last March. We also had a family with 2 teenage girls diving with us. The girls seemed to be confident divers, but they were also not on the their first dives of their trip. They were staying on Coz and had been diving with Alison earlier in the week. First dive was French Reef- max depth 63 ft, bottom time 49 min. Second dive was Palancar Gardens- 68ft, 52 min. Email Allison and see if she can set up some dives with your daughter's experience in mind.

My family dives with BlueXTSea and when my son was 11 and 12 we hired a private DM for him (I actually think they require it) We could stay well above the other group and most of the time saw better stuff... Never felt like conditions were questionable. I think if you do your research and find the right Dive Op they will take you to the sites that suit your abilities.

Sorry for heading off-topic here, but I guess the issue is resolved ---- flots ate too many beans.

OK DandyDon, I don't know how to quote the first paragraph of your message, then respond, and then quote the second paragraph of your message and respond, with the result that you and I both want, which is your message inside the boxes, and my responses outside.

Thanks in advance.
Sorry about the rant. The quote feature can be learned and used various ways, but it can be confusing - so play it safe if you'd like and just reply at the bottom of a quote, ok?

Thanks all.

As for our daughter she was def one of the best in her class and is very comfortable in water. Her dives for her cert went to about 45ft and she did great. I was right there with her.

I admit some of these posts made me a bit nervous but I really need her to get to Diving since she was certified almost 60 days ago. I want her to stay well practiced.

Also I should say her first dives were in a murky lake with about 5ft viz and she did not freak out. Good sign!

We are looking into ops in Coz that won't break the bank to take the 3 of us out. Will post back with what we ended up with. Our cruise gets in at like 8-9am on the 4th of Cct.
Ok, will you have all of your own gear, or be using the dive Ops? No Ops supply SMB so you'll need to take one each at least. I was on a boat there the other day with a nice couple from Dallas, on their first trip - and they had nice gear, even lights to look into holes, but no SMBs. :shakehead:

As I said in reply to your post on the infamous down current thread, asking about shore dives: I guess you could do some diving at Chankanaab park. You'd have to inquire directly or on the Coz forum, tho - as I haven't done it.

The currents & eddies can be challenging at Cozumel, but very rarely dangerous. I know you want to keep your family safe, but I guess you let your daughter have a drivers license? My grandson totaled 2 vehicles early in his driving career, then nearly killed himself on a bicycle - there is just so much we can do.

With the time you are arriving, I'd suggest Blue Angel's 11am boat as referenced by Matt above - with a private DM. The first day of dives on any trip is the most dangerous (85% of the accidents) so it would be helpful to you too to have your own DM, but essential for your child I think.

Alison would be a good alternative, and I had the pleasure of diving with her once last week. I don't know if she can wait that late but you could ask, she has a super boat, she is very safety conscious, etc. - except I'd still book a private DM.

Or you could book a private boat for about the same cost as 3 divers and a private DM - really.

Not yet, but checked out the gear this weekend in the pool :D. Waiting for the dive housing for my Gopro that my sweet husband got me for a belated birthday present. And the countdown has begun.....
