sweet diving at Dive Land Park yesterday:
Quarry, max depth 150' average depth around 45'; first thermocline encountered at 21-25 feet water dropped from 74 degrees to a chilly 62 degrees. This occurs notably at the very top of the tractor trailer body sitting in 40 feet of water. The visibility was 25-35 feet and the bass and catfish were huge and everywhere. Really cool to see the bluegills spawning in beds on the shallow rock outcropping at about 15 feet. Dove it in a 3/2 full suit and really appreciated the 5 mm hood on the second dive...could have used it on the first dive. My dive times were 35'/71 min followed by 1:27 SIT then a 42'/75 min dive. I wish I had time to stay and see the live band they had and do the night dive, but it is a 3 1/2 hour drive for me from Fort Rucker....I need to take advantage of the camping next time (they do a scheduled night dive, with live entertainment every 3rd sat May-Oct), and spend two days diving, not just one...this was a test to see if it would be worth the drive on future dive escapades...kind of a recon if you will.
Happy diving,
Mike
