I just got one in texas cause i found out hte hard way what a electronic toll was when i got fined for not paying the toll. The ones we have here is for the vehical and can not move rom one car to another. when using they take a picture of the licence plate when going through the toll area and verify the authorized user is using it and ticket acordingly. Nice to know someone has passes that can be moved car to car.

If you rent a car, the rental will come with a sunpass, but I think it's very expensive at 5 or 7 bucks per day.
Yes, the same with EZ-Pass up north, and they won't let you buy one without assigning it to a car (which I don't own).

I have heard that rental car companies will rent you a Sunpass for a flat daily rate of 7 or 15 bucks.
That seems pretty cheap.
Sarcasm?

Toll roads - Another great reason not to vacation in Florida.
Electronic tolls are a great way to assign the expense of highways to those who actually use them, with a minimum of inconvenience.

I bought SunPass a couple of years ago ( I live in NJ). It makes driving down the FL easier, especially before they took out the toll booths on the Fl Turnpike.

That´s easy money for he authorities. There are few alternative roads without toll.

I live in Fort Lauderdale and work in South Miami. I take US 27 and State Road 997 every day. While there are no tolls, I take that route because it's faster/shorter for me. But they are also in a very poor condition and both need resurfacing badly. Perhaps that's because they are free??

I'm just guessing that because they just widened the 18 mile stretch into the keys to 2 lanes wide with passing zones not near close enough, there is no money to fix US 27, which really does suck. Monroe County tried to make US1 a toll road and the Conchs screamed and bellowed like they were getting their livers removed without anesthesia. Because, you see, it's OK to take money from the tourists, but God forbid we pay for any services ourselves. I've found that, in most cases, toll roads are faster, better maintained, and straighter, and the tolls aren't really too obnoxious for the value received. If you aren't a believer, try driving to Naples on 41 or to Leesburg on 27. That will take you back to I-75 right away.

A couple years ago we had a rental car in Orlando and had to get off the toll road where it was unmanned and exact change only. Scoured the car, luggage etc for about 15 minutes to find the 35 cents we needed, threw it in the basket and drove off on our merry way. About 2 months later the rental company billed my CC something like $50 bucks for the State penalty and their (processing fee) sure left a bad taste in my mouth.....

It's true. If you are just driving down, get yourself a sunpass (you'll have to pre-load it with 30 bucks, but it's good forever) at the first rest area you come to in Florida. Every Publix and Walgreens also carry them. If you don't like the thought of the sunpass on your window, get the thick one and velcro it on, then throw it in the glovebox till next time. If you rent a car, the rental will come with a sunpass, but I think it's very expensive at 5 or 7 bucks per day. The final option if you drive is to use toll by plate. They'll just look your plate up and bill you later. I think it costs an extra $0.25 or $0.50 per toll booth for the toll by plate.

The surcharge by plate depends on the county.. some a quarter some more.. its smarter to get your own sunpass.. and you get a discount on your tolls for having one..

Your statement on assigment of cost might make sense if the Florida gasoline tax wasn't 7th highest in the nation in addition to the tolls.
