Just a quick update for today:

I went by Lone Star Scuba - Fort Worth to pick up a few things and I mentioned what we are planning with Mike, the store manager. He said to let him know and he would try to work with us on bringing in speakers. I also picked up the information for the gentlemen that lives in the area who does training for the KISS rebreather system. I am sure we can get him in for a talk.

At the risk of being redundant, Tejas and I are meeting tomorrow to discuss prelims. Now is the time to post, PM or email your ideas and opinions concerning the first meeting. Speak up, folks, we are all ears.

Safe dives,

Alright folk, the informal meeting is happening today at 11:30, so last chance to get in any insight, worries, comments, questions, etc.

I'll check my Iphone to see if anyone had anything to say before the meeting starts. :)

i live pretty close to Lone Star Scuba about 3 miles, good guys over there... let keep this rolling

i will be good also if we can find a pool for training purposes or to try new gear you purchase..

I know of a few pools, although some require an instructor to be present...which is, of course understandable from the insurance perspective.

That said, there is at least one instructor in our current "interested" list.

I also believe that, as we develop as a club, dive shops will support us and those with a pool will consider letting us train even for a nominal fee.

Thanks for your input.

Update from the informal meeting today.

Everyone is mentioning Grapevine based on its central location, so we think Grapevine it is. Now we need someone with a little more knowledge of Grapevine. Which restaurants are best setup for group meetings? I know there are tons around Grapevine Mills mall, out on 114 as well as in the heart of downtown. We might have to send Tejas on a fact finding mission.

Saturdays seem like a no-go. Tues/Wed/Thurs evenings appear to be the best meeting time.

Time frame: Perhaps 6:30-7 to start gathering, ordering food, etc., with the meeting starting at 7 or 7:30 and hopefully only running no more than an hour. Future meetings may run a little longer, but we thought it best to keep them around an hour so folks can get home at a respectable hour.

Items of discussion: Future meeting dates, locations and times. Organization of the club itself. General memberships or perhaps membership levels for those who can or cannot be more involved, etc. A name for the club.

Basically, everything is open for comments and thoughts right now.

I would like to get this first meeting established by the end of this month if possible or at least no later than mid-April.

I open the floor to everyone else. Please share your thoughts.

I will also send this out in email form tomorrow.

Safe dives,

Cyp

I'm glad y'all had a good meeting. Grapevine sounds nice and central to most of us.

Wednesdays would be tough on me. I run the sound board at Church on Wed nights.
Tues or Thurs is good and the @ 6:30-7:00 start time sounds good too.

I like the previously mentioned idea of a pool for some training/practice. I think just about everybody can benefit from some "trim" time.

In the meantime, I'll pick my brain for topics, ideas, etc.

Have a great weekend everybody...dive safe if your getting in the water. :D

We would definitely be interested in meeting some divers and going cave/cavern diving in Florida. We also like to dive Lake Murray, Lake Travis, etc. We have a boat to dive PK, to get to the deeper depths. We are not into the party scene, its mostly about diving, recreational, deep, cold, doesn't matter to much. Troy is a full cave diver. I am not into that and he would love to go to Florida once in a while. We are not tied to any dive shops, and don't really care to be. We have a 10 foot deep pool at home for get togethers, work on skills, trim, new gear and what not. Keep us posted! I will keep checking back to see whats up.

Debra and Troy,

Welcome! I am glad to hear that ya'll are interested and would like to thank you for the generous offer of your pool for training get-togethers as well as the possibility of diving with you on your boat at PK. I personally have been wanting to get back to PK, but as you know, of course, with the closing of Scuba Point sometime back, you really need a boat to dive PK. Yes, I'm stating the obvious since that is more than likely why you have a boat there in the first place...lol.

If you don't mind my asking, what type and size is your boat, how many divers will it handle, etc? While you might be offering it for free, other than help with the gas, I'm betting the members would have no problem dropping in a little more cash for your time and boat maintenance. I might be speaking out of turn, as I try not to put words in anyone else mouth, but I know I'd be willing to kick in a little cash for a boat dive at PK.

As relates to your mention of not being into the party scene: You might have noticed this on a previous post in this thread, but we are trying to avoid that scenario entirely during the meetings. We are more interested in informative and educational meetings.

Anyway, thank you again for your interest and generosity. I look forward to having you both in the group, and have you on the email list.

Safe dives,

Cyp

Our boat is actually docked at Joe Pool, but we can drop it in PK at anytime the conditions are good. It is a Sea Ray and divers with gear will hold 4. It is something like a 220 or 240 select. Hell I don't know, that's Troy's department. It's red, and its pretty! The offer is there after we start to meet a few people, and make sure they are not ready to cowboy it up, and dive off of it with 6 open water dives, in CSSP. Know what I mean? God knows who is reading this. Hopefully we can all get together, meet a few nice divers, and take it from there.
