Alright, my good friend sub-zero was braver than I was. Originally, we planned a few buddy dives at CSSP today(2/11/12), but I backed out due to wusssitude. Drysuit or not, I just didn't see myself out for the surface interval in temps under 40 with a wind chill around 30. Now I somewhat regret the decision, as I stood in the warm sun with only a long sleeved shirt on....granted, it was only 42, but I know I would have been comfortable in my dry suit.

Oh well, perhaps a lesson learned. :) Maybe the weather isn't so bad, as long as the sun shines bright!

Safe dives my friends,

Cyp

I opted for a no dive weekend for the same reason and feel it was wise : ) Although I am bored silly at the moment.

I sat at home looking at dry suits so that I could go out and dive on cold days like yesterday. I need to bone up and drop the coin on a dry suit so that my diving won't take a back seat weather conditions any longer.

I thought about the water at Clear Springs today as I put some wood on the fire. It will be a little while still until I layer up the wetsuits and do a dip in the CSSP pond.
I wish it was warmer. I'm ready to dive again. Maybe a short trip to the river next month.

I hear ya! Unless life somehow manages to get in the way or there are thunderstorms this coming Saturday, I'm going to CSSP. Care to join in on the fun? :cool2:

Yeap, a dry suit is a nice investment. Let me know when/if you get one and want to hit any of the local lakes/parks.

If you wasn't so nice and bought yourself a dry suit instead of your wife....lol. Wait, don't tell her I said that! I'd honestly have done the same thing if my wife was currently diving.

Don't forget Balmorhea. Right now there are a couple of LDS that are running their OW check out and various skill classes out there. I'm thinking about joining a couple of them just to go dive the clear water.

I might be up for a Balmorhea trip soon as long as it isnt the first weekend in March. I have yet to dive out there but I've spent some time on a motorcycle out there and in Marfa, such a cool little town. What is the water temp like out there this time of the year?

Balmorhea: Water temp 72-76 year round. :D

I have yet to dive there myself. I'd like to go out on a Friday morning (early) and return on Saturday evening as I generally cannot dive Sunday. However, I actually have two Sundays off of Church class in March (11th, 18th), so I could probably get a weekend in then.

Hey Cyp,
I don't blame you for staying home, nothing wrong with spending time with the family on a cold winter day:-) As for myself, it was the only free weekend I had, so had to proceed with the plan. On Saturday, I was never cold, well, probably my hands, but only for a few minutes:-) That's the beauty of diving with a drysuit, subfreezing temps are no longer an issue.

Don't beat yourself up too much, there'll be more subfreezing days to come before spring. I'll probably head north sometime in March when the bottom temps hit the low 40s, will just text or pm you.

Here are some topside and u/w photos from last Saturday's dive.

Perfect diving weather

First dive, set my compass for the cabin cruiser, missed that entirely, but instead found this croc.

Found the biggest turtle in CSSP. I also saw what looked liked an albino catfish, but I think I must've cooked the sucker with my strobes.

Shark -- more like Megalodon

After diving, always hit this taco shack in Terrell. IMO, one of the best and cheapest tacos that can be had:) Sadly, they don't have huevos del toro and seso, so opted for Cabeza de res, lengua and al pastor.

Dive safe everyone.

Enrique

Thanks for sharing the pics Sub, I've been to CSSP twice and I've never run across that croc, pretty cool.

Cyp, I think one night would be plenty out at Balmorhea and I am usually busy on Sunday's as well so getting back on Sat night would prob work better for me too. However, it is quite a haul from then metro so a three day might need to be in order. Our kid is having surgery on Friday March 9th so I'm prob out for that weekend.

Let me know what you are thinking and I'll try and make it happen.

We dove Travis on the 11th, first dive around 9am...it wasn't bad at all. I did not unzip my drysuit between dives like usual though!
