An interesting thought actually and one not touched on so far. Many of my friends and countrymen/women are saying "no thanks" to Mexico because they fear being beheaded, beaten, shot, kidnapped, or screwed over by the authorities. Extensively covered in the media. So what am I going to tell them when they learn that the boats are unsafe too? I'll NEVER get them back down here!

I am curious as to why there are no comments from those involved. They already made statements to investigators and from what I can tell none of the victims have any liability whatsoever.

I suspect it's because people whose lives were recently endangered and who spent hours floating in the ocean wondering if they'd ever be rescued might have higher priorities than posting messages. They're probably exhausted and in need of recovery from exposure.

Where I trained, we occasionally saw shrimpers who came off a boat and spent varying amounts of time floating. It's amazing how much punishment a body takes "just floating." A few of them died despite being in a university medical center. One guy, who floated overnight, had so much muscle damage that he got myoglobinemia which, compounded by dehydration, killed his kidneys. The degree of muscle damage was akin to having been beaten up over his entire body by a team of professional thugs for a good long time.

Maybe I should clarify......the pictures I saw from the news articles showed all involved walking off the naval vessel, laughing and hugging, and the boat captain and at least 1 diver had cigarrettes in their mouths so they look fine to me. Then a few hours ago one diver involved was in this thread probably reading for about an hour. He just happens to be the same person who started the Opal thread and was quick to post information about that accident but I guess in this case since he is the victim it is different.

Oh that is not fun to think about..........Like I said above I don't think that is the case here......I might be wrong but I don't think so.

I got to wonder why any of the survivors would want to come here to talk about the accident. It could be helpful to them too, but I doubt that any would want to.

Another point that may have been mentioned in passing. Some aviators state that if it (emergency gear) is not on you and you have an off-field landing, you may not ever have it after landing.

How is it relevant you ask? The issue of drugs surrounding this dive op in the past, present and future is a safety issue for those who might consider diving with them. Now we have all the past and present red flags raised about this OP and it comes as absolutely no surprise to me that one of his boat captains has a link to that on his facebook page. Does that mean he uses? Can't say for sure but the red flags are everywhere.

C'mon, man. That's a real reach, even for you. This is nothing more than trial by innuendo. You could just as easily say that since you saw a DM having a beer one time, that means he is at risk of being drunk on the job.

And once again, Mau was no longer affiliated with the op where Opal and Gabi worked at the time of their incident, even though it was still named Scuba Mau.

Once again, Mau saw the bounce dive behavior for years and said or did nothing. Now we have another dive accident that does directly involve Mau and there are a whole lot of red flags. Just my observations......YMMV

Or, maybe, it's all this high-quality, expert speculation from sleuthy wannabe's thousands of miles away -- anyone with first hand knowledge might feel they'd be irrelevant? redundant? ignored?

Whatever happened to waiting for official, first-hand information? Anyone else remember those good old days when the cranks held off claiming "conspiracy" or "cover-up" until AFTER the official reports were made?
