Lake Travis, Mansfield Dam (boat ramp)
Divers – paulw
Air Temp - 73
Water Temp @ Surface – 60
Water Temp @ 50 - 59
Max Depth - 50'
Vis to 50' - 3 to 4'
Dive Time - 45 min

I walked down the boat ramp followed by four geese honking at me all the way down, they are getting kinda talkative. The vis was about the same from 0 to 50', three feet mostly and the temp is well just cold! I didn't see many fish, a couple small bass and two cats. I found a small black rash guard and if you go straight out from the ramp at 15' you will find it on a tree stump, I thought it would make a good marker. Nice dive, cold but nice.

PADI Altitude Specialty through International Scuba, Carrollton, Texas

Lots of folks in the water with no business doing this dive.
Many of the "newer" divers couldn't control bouyancy.
I was suprised at the sub-par level of safety exhibited by many.
One lady (@ 110 lbs.) in her AOW training had been using 30 lbs. of weight...I'm not sure how she got passed her instructor with this much weight.

It was a been there, done that, got the shirt kind of dive. I did end up with some fun video: Valhalla Missile Silo Scuba - Jan 28-29, 2012 - YouTube

We're ready for some warmer water but where to go next...maybe back down to the Comal until things warm up a bit.

Feb 11, 2012 - Lake Travis - Starnes Island & Oasis Wall

The air was pretty cold, but we had a great morning of diving off the Giant Stride! I found some pretty decent viz of 6-10 or maybe a little more around 55-65' at both sites. That was a great surprise, and I found myself wishing I had more time to enjoy it. Viz dropped back to poor below 70 and stayed that way to just under 90' or so, which is where I decided that it wasn't going to get better and went back up to 55-60. Temp was 54 at depth, slightly warmer at the surface.
