Nice. I hate to bring this up, but you just painted cops with that broad brush you don't want used to paint Coz. That would be like saying because some dive shops have crooked employees, ALL dive shops must have some crooked employees. Faulty logic. Instead of saying that, you should focus on the fact that the complaint was made by the criminals. Por Esto always repeats anything bad a prisoner has to say about the police. You are SURE Coz has some crooked cops?

I respectfully disagree with you Chief! Yes, I am SURE there is at least one crooked cop in Cozumel - not necessarily in this case, but absolutely and it is not faulty logic. For starters, I am not painting all cops with a broad brush as crooked and even qualified that statement - I said there are SOME crooked cops! Second, comparing dive shop employees to cops is apples to oranges. Cops have at least some authority regardless of rank and can (if they are crooked) intimidate people into things for the fear of being arrested simply because they don't know any better. Your general dive shop employee or employee in any consumer business doesn't have that intimidation/fear factor going on. Sure, thre could be thieves among employees, this too happens all over the world - but not all employees are thieves. There are good and bad people in every industry, in every city/town - it's an unfortunate part of life.

As far as crooked cops here - any cop that accepts or encourages a bribe is crooked - and we all know that happens from time to time with locals and tourists - do we agree there? Of course they are not all like that and I am not claiming that they are.

Speaking of bribes - if you (general public) are ever pulled over by a cop and they encourage a bribe or threaten you in any way, ask them to follow you to the police station right then - they will either back down or write you a ticket if warranted.

Christi, you said "there are crooked cops on every single police force in the world" - just accept that you exaggerated, ok.

I didn't exaggerate, I believe that it is true - on different levels. And yes, I said there ARE crooked cops, I did not say ALL cops - HUGE difference. - even a cop in podunk USA that gives preferential treatment to someone because tehy are a friend depsite following the letter of the law is corruption in my opinion. They are civil servants and are required to be objective and apply the law over emotions - but they are human - no human is perfect.

Do we have to send you two to your rooms?!?!?! :scorned:

Oh gawd - hahahaha! Let's agree to disagree on the semantics ok?! I like you and Richard both, I just have a different opinion on this one :)

The police and firefighters we have in the US are America's finest, in it for the long haul usually, protecting us when we can't protect ourselves, etc. :thumb:

The firefighters are not included in this rant, but why lump them together with the cops?

This may have been true in the past, but overall now? :shakehead:

The Cops in Denver have been Thugs for at least a decade. Even other cops do not like to Carry in Denver as the Cops there shoot first and ask questions later. Civilians are often killed even when unarmed. It is a known problem.

In the mountains our finest spend their time giving out tickets. I never hear about Cops doing anything good in the community. We don't have much crime, but my wife did get a ticket five years back for doing 26mph in a 20 zone. It's almost impossible to do 20mph on this steep downhill road, and the cops know it. Even the DA was laughing.

In Santa Rosa the Cops once locked all the divers in the parking lot one night. There was maybe 8 cars. It was a joke as who they were looking for was long gone. They were there and gone before the cops arrived.... dohhh. We never saw them and were under water when they apparently arrived, and then left. Likely a drug deal, I don't know. We sat for over 45 minutes while they did nothing. They did check the bathrooms! Then they took our names and let everyone out. They did not even question us. Awesome investigative work there guys! Maybe if the cops patrolled vs. sitting in the parking lot of the truck stop gabbing?

I am completely underwhelmed by our "finest". Criminals are rarely caught, but the average citizen better not violate a traffic law! I rarely hear about local law enforcement unless it's negative. Impressive...

Maybe the Cops in Coz do a better job....

Well there ya go. Humans aren't perfect, so dive shop owners must not be either. So they are crooked? Do you perfectly follow the letter of the law in your business?

I am just totally floored that you have argued continually that statements about Mexico shouldn't be applied to Coz because it isn't like other part but yet you tar the police with one brush and say they are all the same. And you said EVERY POLICE FORCE, not some police forces.

And also nice that you say no human is perfect, so no cop is perfect, but cops must be perfect, so I guess they all are crooked more or less. From a business perspective, do you have many cops who dive with you? I am just saying....

Also from a safety perspective, you just downed all the police in Cozumel. That ain't exactly for the tourism brochures.
