Just want to share a new spot with everyone! It's called LOVE Cafe and is located on the waterfront just north of airport road. It is the first palapa! They have covered seating in the palapa and they also have seating on the beach - including a couple of hammocks if you want to ust chill and have a cold beer or special drink of the house. It is my new favorite spot for sunsets! Some of you may be familiar with the owners, Maria and Ruben (the lead singer for The Red Eye Band here on the island).

They are open daily from 10am to midnight and have a really unique and delicious menu - I call it gourmet Mexican, but without the gourmet prices! With the exception of fajitas, their menu items cannot be found anywhere else on the island - at least their versions of things are much different and delicious with accessible pricing!

Some of my favorites are the stuffed mushrooms, lobster tacos, chicken wings served with Maria's homemade sauces, and of course Aguachiles de Camaron (shrimp). Aguachiles for those that do not know is a traditional MX dish more known from central Mexico. It is light and delicious and prepared very similar to ceviche. Served with shrimp, purple onion, cucumber, jalapeño cooked in lime juice - absolutely delicious!

The Red Eye Band will be playing every Wednesday from 7ish to 11, and the weekends will host a variety of other bands from all over Mexico (and the world) - there are some great line-ups coming this year :) They will also have DJ night mixed in with bands playing light dance jazz/techno/lounge fusion for lack of a better explanation - not the typical dance club heavy boom music. They will also have african drums and fireshows on the beach some nights! It is a very relaxed atmosphere with great energy! They also have daily specials including food and drinks!

Check it out next time you're here!!! You can also visit their facebook page to see photos and daily specials!

And yes I agree with Kevin - it can be a very romantic spot, especially for sunset!

Been there!!! And i love it. Food was great. The spot is fabulous for romance!!!! The owners a couple of the most sweetest people on the planet.

How far is just north, Christi? Cuz that sounds like a short walk....:D

It's a 5 minute walk from the square - less than a block north of airport road

Maria and Ruben are extremely sweet and interesting people indeed. The location is awesome too, used to be a local spot managed by the Superior. The snorkeling out front is not bad, very little boat traffic, and it's in town. You can even catch a glimpse of the pier of the presidential retreat from the palapa.
Can't wait to see what Maria did with the place !!! It was my favorite spot for a super cheap (10 pesos a coke, no need for transportation) and laid-back afternoon by the water. Glad to read the prices are still affordable. And that there will be yet more opportunities to listen to the Red Eye Band and other musicians an easy walk from downtown.
Christi, are the local moms and kids still chilling there after school ? It was one of the charms of Casitas, I hope it hasn't changed in that aspect.

Sweet. That is like next door for me. I wondered where this place was after hearing you posting about it. Thanks!
