As there is DIR for sidemount, it seems like a good idea to get people to explain what their reg hose lengths (and reg styles) for their sidemount rigs. So what lengths on what style regs are you using and why? (Inflator and SPG hose lengths are so particular to an individual set-ups that I am not sure asking about those is of great use, but if you want to explain it all, go right ahead.)

Does your set-up change when using deco/stage bottles?

Consider me an empty cup waiting for your knowledge.

6" SPG hoses, more gets floppy

9" inflator, it routes the way I like it without any excess slack or looping.

32" hose for my left secondary, around my neck and hanging on a neclace. Long enough to donate face to face.

7' hose for my right secondary, so I can share gas in a mixed team. Its got a loop under hose retainers on the tank, after that, it tucks under my light canister and across my chest, around my neck and either in my mouth or clipped to right shoulder d-ring.

Can't remember the hose length on my drysuit, its whatever it came with... it works. I think its 16" off the right tank.

Do you not have trouble with the two loops around the back of your neck getting mixed in with each other? Playing around with it, I can easily see why some people don't loop the left reg around the neck, but then you need a left handed reg and 90 degree bend it seems.

If someone is diving sidemount configuration (versus sidemounting),then using the same philosophy as backmounting ie long hose around the next with 2nd stage on a necklace, then no problem. If you are sidemounting, where tank removal is necessary etc, then looping hoses around the neck becomes problematic. 5' hoses looped and stuffed in this case works great if longer hoses are needed. Personally I like 50" on left, and 40" on right, with the hoses tucked along my side, but nothinh around my neck.

.

I don't make any changes to hose configuration, since I dive short hoses anyway. I use a rigid side attachment(old school) versus butt plate, and this makes placement of stages on my side on top of the sidemount tank easier. You can do the same thing with the butt plate, but you'll have a little longer lower leash to attach into the butt plate. If I have multiple stages and deco tanks, then I also have the option of placing tanks in the customary front placement you'd do with a BP.

30" Miflex+right angle adapter on the right, around my neck and bungeed in a necklace. 7' Miflex on the left, tucked away on the tank, with just enough pulled out to come across my chest and around my neck. 6" hoses on the SPGs, although I'm considering trying 9". I think the inflator hose supplied with the Razor wing is 8". I haven't tried stages or deco bottles yet(but I will in the fall) and I haven't been anyplace tight enough to have to swing the bottles forward or take them off.

Do you mean short hose on the left tank and long hose on the right.

I like the hogarthian loop, and I like the DIR idea of looping a deco reg from the left.

But the sidemount configuration of a looped left, and then a hogarthian right feels funny to me. I agree it is similar to the backmount doubles configuration (or even a single bungied with a loop), but with the non-sidemount configuration I just don't feel the same crowding I do with a looped, bungied left, and the a hogarthian right.

Ooops...yes, that's what I meant. Thanks.

(Actually my question is the same. Specifically, I have yet to figure a way to make the long hose work from the left. Maybe I am just too programmed with the neck loop from the right to think it through.)
