Phase 1 of the Upgrade is complete.

The database is now on the new version, and the look is different. I realize this will cause stress for some people, but there's no going back to the old look. It's gone.

There is a lot more to do with this... so everyone have patience. Do NOT post 15 threads in site support, as it will only cause unnecessary aggravation (mostly on my part) and honestly, I'm not going to jump to fix someone's missing avatar, or favorite smiley right now.

Things will be different for a few days, while we settle into this update. Our site is HUGE by vbulletin standards, and I don't want to put too much stuff in at once.

Again... Please go easy on the bug reports. I know there are issues to be worked out, but I have other stuff to do besides this.

Thanks.

Congrats and good job. Since I too run a board I realize how much work goes into it and why change is necessary. As a Vbulletin customer myself I was wondering what was taking you so long to update. Anyway, thanks for all the work you put into this and I hope that everyone has patience and understands that this is a slow, agonizing process. So hopefully most impatient members won't get their panties in a bunch.

nm.. I;ll wait to see if 'ignore poster' ability returns later.

I've been amazed at the negative posts today, only a few of which were to do with a real problem. Gawd...!

BTW, I really like the new Top button. Handy. :thumb:

I realize tho that this is but an interim step with the best yet to come. Thanks for the hard work and putting up with the whiners. At least we're not posting on SB2 or whining on FB about SB being down for days.

HowardE,

It looks good, seems to load quicker and seems easy to navigate around - have lot's of questions, but am sure I'll find answers when navigating around.

Good job, cheers

--- We were on version 3.8 of vBulletin. This is 4.1. We want to offer all of the latest features of the forum. So... the only solution - UPGRADE. The big issue was that 4 from 3 was a total re-design, and completely new core, and thus all old "hacks" (enhancements) didn't work. ScubaBoard had a lot of enhancements, both good and bad. All of them however changed the performance of the site. Now we have just the essentials, and hopefully the site will perform better.

Also, there is a soon to be released "CMS" with articles, etc. This content will be an actual home page, and we'll have nice stuff there to enhance the user experience.

Overall... with only about 10 complaints, and more than 20,000 people (almost 4,000 SB USERS) on the site EVERY day, I'd call this a success. If you can't handle the change... oh well. I'm not going to hold back progress for a few crusty people who can't make this updated style and functionality of ScubaBoard work for everyone else. There's a few people I'd personally rather just see go the way of the dodo than have to see their daily gripes about how change sucks (they shall remain nameless scott), but like everything, they too have their place. Don't think I pay attention to your complaints. Because I don't. The bottom line is... There IS NO GOING BACK. The old SB is gone.

I am sure that once our new forum skin is designed and installed, the usual crowd will say how much they hate it. I will ignore those complaints as well.

To those who have patience and understanding with the process... I appreciate your support.

Bah, Humbug !!! :D
