So how did it go? I feel certain you used the "Express" boat. How was it? Bouncy ride? Any boat concerns? Flat surface at site? rollers? chop? what size?

The Express boat is one that I use so my minds eye watches from a distance
well the dive this morning got cancelled due to a storm moving in they were calling for up to 7 foot seas so hopefully better luck next weekend
I've been blownout at times, several days in the Florida Keys, half of a liveaboard in the Exumas, on Cozumel, it happens. Weather happens; don't argue with it. Nice to have backup plans at times.
better luck next time. :eyebrow:

:D

Have to remember that.
-We call it "moderate", followed by "snotty".

It must be a southern thing, see the same usage from the gentleman from South Carolina. We call it "normal" followed by "sporting" followed by "you are not diving today."

"Sporting Conditions" are not uncommon this early in the year.

Some of my earliest dives were off the coast at Myrtle Beach. One of the things I learned was ladder/boat safety in "sporting conditions".

When swells and chop are increased, your situational awareness needs to be centered on the ladder/boat when climbing aboard after your dive. The ladder can hurt you in high swells if your on the receiving end. Keep your regulator in your mouth until fully on board.

Have fun and be safe.

What the gentleman from SC says.

I try to take the ladder at the highest rung I can put my fins on right after it hits the boat. That gives you the time for it to ride up and partially back down before it slams into the boat again. It's not pretty. Sit tight on the trail line and watch someone else do it before you try.

In case nobody mentioned. Remeber to Breathe. BTW just curious. Why did you travel from CT to NC to dive in cold water? There is cold complicated Atlantic water out your back door.

He probably did because CT gets cold water over winter and there is never cold water in the Carolinas.......I had a scheduled charter with Express out of Murrells for March 26, but weather cancelled it. It was their first boat scheduled for the season, so once again us Snowbirds were SOL. Coastal Scuba came through for me though--twice--March 2 and 19. And one of their contracted Instructors also gave me some pool time (the pool fee was all I paid, except a tip). He actually signed off on all 20 DM demonstration skills for me and even gave me the paperwork. They're OK in my book.
