Hey guys,

This will be my second trip to the Philippines and I'll have 10 days to take advantage of. I'll be landing in Manila on the 5th, Tagbilaran on the 6th, and will be flying out of Mactan Intl on the 16th. Goals for the trip include learning to dive with enriched air, learning underwater photography, and to see the tarsiers. Is there anything to do at night other than the bar/club scene? I struggled with this part on my last PI trip.

Background:
I'm certified Advanced and have 10 logged dives. My first and only dive trip was to Moalboal last October. Dive spots included: House Reef, Airplane Wreck, White Beach, and Pescador Island. I would love to do the wreck and the island again. I'm working in Afghanistan so all equipment will have to be rented.

Manila:
Looking into the Howzat Inn as recommended in a previous post. Arriving late afternoon and leaving the next morning.

Alona:
I haven't been able to find a decent room online as all the more popular places are already booked. I've emailed Seaquest and Philippine Fun Divers for help with setting something up. I'd like to have a sea/pool side room and stay under p3000 if possible. I'll probably be staying here for four or five days. I'll just plan on taking a fast ferry over to Cebu Island for now.

Moalboal:
This is where I learned to dive. I stayed with Savedra and did my diving with them too. The dive operation was great and my instructor, Dino, was outstanding. If he's there, I'll be diving with Savedra again. The only negative I had with the resort is that my room was robbed while I slept (Disco Night). You really need to lock the doors there, even when you are in the room. I'd like to find a sea/pool side room here for about p1500. I'm going to look up Eve's Kiosk and am waiting on a response from Cora's Palm Court.

Cebu City:
Transportation to Cebu City isn't a problem. I'll just take the bus like I did last time for p120 and catch a cab to the airport. I may take a day from Moalboal to see the city though.

Please let me know If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this trip work or will be in the area at the same time. I don't like planning every detail of my vacations but I do want to maximize my dive time.

Thank You!

You might be competing with Chinese New Years, Feb 3. There will be a lot of folks going to the Philippines during the holiday.

I would suggest contacting the resorts direct for an immediate confirmation. Sometimes an agent takes a day or two to contact the resort and get back, and of course charges a fee of 10% or more.f

At Moalboal, I stay at Marina Resort, behind Savedra. Aircon room is P1600 double.

There are many hotels in Alona back from the beach, and you save a lot.
At Alona, I stay at Alonaland. Kitchenettes with aircon are P1800. A fan room is P800.
Welcome to Alonaland-Panglao

On the beach, try Lost Horizon, rooms from P2400.
Lost Horizon Island Resort : Panglao Island, Philippines : Home

At Cabilao, I would stay at Cabilao Beach Club. They are well run and not too expensive. Part of the Sea Explorers group. They also have a dive shop at Alona and sometimes do transfers to or from Alona to Cabilao.

OMG Really???:confused: Even in a decent resort like Savedra?.

I am a female going there alone in 10 days. Have to say this makes me a little anxious.............

Are you saying your door wasn't locked while you slept?

Or did someone access your room through a locked door?

I didn't realize it was a holiday season...that would explain why everyone's been booked though. Lost Horizon is full too so I'll probably just have to pick something with a short walk to the beach. Thanks for all the info.

I really wouldn't worry about the Panagsama Beach area. It's really quiet most days and everyone there is very nice. The exception is Friday or Saturday night when they hold the disco. People come in from all the surrounding areas but it still isn't bad. I really liked it and I'll be back there on the 10th of Feb.

The door was unlocked when I went to bed. At least they only took my cash and some other small items. The first thing everyone there asked me was "who did you bring back with you?" I guess that's one more thing to look out for...lol

I have stayed at Polaris on Cabilao and had a great time, the only potential drawback is it is more difficult to get to dive Balicasag and there is no night life to speak of...

In regards to finding a room in Moalboal for the price you mentioned, just ask Savedra Dive Center to arrange for you, Im sure the young ladies there will find something for you... Marina is ok.. and there are several other places that they can look at for you... but you better hurry up Feb will be a very busy month....

Shame that you left your room open....

Try Harmony Hotel. We stayed in a nice a/c clean room, with free breakfast. They have a pool. From there it's just a 2 minute walk to Alona beach (thru Lost Horizon resort). Wife and I stayed there last October 2009 and I think I paid less than P2,000 for the pool side room. Some pics -

I think you will have to stay at a place off the beach. See if my Alona Beach map helps you.

Location #2 is fairly new and looks good. It is owned by the same person that owns location #30. The prices are less on the main road.

As mentioned #58 (Harmony) is also a good place.
