I plan on being in the Jupiter area the first week of February. I will probably do a boat dive with the local dive shop but I was wondering if I can do any shallow shore dives at the Inlet and , if so, where exactly.

The inlet gets ALOT of boat traffic and since it is narrow, the boats can get a little close to the edges. Also they are currently dredging the inlet which you can see on the inlet cam. All boat traffic is reduced to no -wake.

There are 2 shore dives but they can be a bit farther off the shore and you'll need to watch for currents, let alone the sharks are currently hugging the shore line going after the spanish mack that's grouped up there. 1st shore dive would be off blowing rocks which is north of the inlet. The other shore dive would be about 1/2 mile north of the Juno pier and it's called 'barges in a box'. It's about 1000 yards off shore and 25 feet deep, but watch for currents.

Lastly, on the inland waterway there is Coral Cove Park. Again it needs to be dove at the peak of high tide and even then viz ain't that great. But you can see some nice fish and it's not deep. Watch for the bull sharks that like to enter the inlet this time of year, we are just coming into the height of the season for them.

Hope this helps and bring alot of neoprene, 69 degrees yesterday.

One of the best local shore dives just a bit further south (approx 20mins) is the Blue Heron Bridge (Phil Foster Park). Also needs to be done bracketing the high tide. The tides that week are early am-mid-morning. Here's a long thread full of info & photos, if you post there I'm sure you'll find a few SB dive buddies to join you that day.

hi,
we are coming in March diving the Keys.

What locations would you recommend as your very favorites? We will stay in Marathon, and can go wherever.

Thank you for the info - I quess I'll scratch that idea off my list. It doesn't sound like a good place for an independent diver without a local guide to be. Sounds like too many variables leading to a bad dive in one form or another.

I wouldn't dive those areas solo either. If you were to post your desire to buddy-up for specific days in the Blue Heron Blvd Bridge thread you would probably receive 10+ offers to join-in...

Thank you Scott and Elena - I think I will just do as you suggest when the time comes.

BluePotter14 - Marathon is a good central location. I'm going to be in Boca for a few days visiting my brother but, I will spend most of my week's vacation break from the snow, traveling up and down the Keys being a dive bum. I like the central Keys because it's only 1 hour either direction for day tripping. Any more than an hour's drive gets a little tedious. You'll find tons of stuff here on these boards to help you out. You can't lose by going to the Keys - weather permitting of course.

Good plan - its not a great place to dive anyway - and lots of reasons not to dive there.

OTOH, offshore Jupiter is a superb place to dive!
