Well I need to get back in shape, so I dont have much of a choice but to stay in this game. Hardly any of my clothes fit, I gained over 50lbs in a years time, maybe even less than that.
Then I need to learn how to maintain that weight. I already cut alcohol, sweets, bread and tortillas out of my diet. So now I need to start exercising. I think I am bout to start that p90X. Has anyone here tried it, does it work?

Where in Texas are you? I've know several people who use p90x. Most don't stick with it, I think it kicks your ass pretty hard. 50 lbs is a very doable number if you stick with th low carb, under 70g per day, diet with no alcohol or simple suger. Read back a couple pages, you'll see several people here who have shed the pounds. Good luck!

I've always enjoyed working out. Variation is the key to maintaining your workout, don't get bored. I run at least 2 x 12 minute miles every day (TV in front of the treadmill is key !) followed by one of 5 workouts. Each workout consists of weights as well as pushups and situps each and every time. Currently I believe I could do no less than 100 pushups and at least that or more situps. I maintain a fairly muscled physique year round and watch what I eat. Hey...I still hit a drive through every now and again and really enjoy my pizza but in moderation.....

Gonna be 50 in March....

With P90X, CrossFit, or whatever flavor you practice, if you're coming off a sedentary lifestyle, then you need to start slow. Our muscles adapt much faster than our ligaments and joints. The next thing you know you're experience overuse injuries and aches.

Get started, but Start Smart and be patient with your gains and exercise increases.... It's not a sprint to the finish!

Im in San Antonio.
Also yes I know that I need to start slow. I have been living unhealthy life, now to change all of that I know takes time and commitment. Wish I was able to work out today, but been laid up from this cold. Makes me a little dizzy and faint. Hopefully I will be over tomorrow.
I did try to work out, but sadly only could do like 5 mins for now. I hate being sick uhhhh

I'd also be very leary of any low carb diet. Just find a healthy diet , something you can maintain and follow that. IMHO those low carb diets are good for nothing except starving your brain's ability to fire properly. No point in starting a diet that cannot be maintained.....do you know anyone who started and is still on the Adkins diet?

My brother did a paper as part of his PhD about the Adkins diet. One point he made was that the Adkins has a purpose, but many try to use it beyond it's intended initial phase and fail to move on to the maintenance phase.

Still feel like crap, but I managed to walk for an hour and do some stretches for 10mins.

Sometimes it's just better to skip the excercise and let your body recover.

Whew, P90X is something serious. I just started it today. I put myself on the lean program. Just did the core synegetics, or however you spell it. Plus I am bout to walk for an hour, here in a few.

BTW I feel better now :)

I will be updating here weekly. Wish me luck
