I wasn't sure after seeing conflicting stories. I just didn't want to bring my family there and have the trip turn out bad.

The gulf is fluid, and so is oil. Winds, currents, and wave action will move masses of water and oil around the gulf until its all dissapated, eaten, collected, or has moved out to wreak havoc elsewhere.
What one person sees one day, doesn't necessarily reflect the next, or the day before... or an hour later.
You're reading different observations at different times, not conflicting stories.
I guess my point is that nobody here is speaking outside the truth, saying otherwise isn't going to bode well in this forum.
I think Bugman hit the nail on the head. Things are very different up and down the coast right now. Pensacola, Orange Beach, Alabama and points further West have seen oil on their beaches. Some just isolated tar balls, and others have had large clumps. As of yet Okaloosa County (Fort Walton Beach, Destin) have not had any "significant" land fall. BUT with some southwest winds perdicted...the story might change rapidly.
If anyone wants local reports, you can look at Channel 3's website. They are our local news station for the Pensacola/Fort Walton/Destin area. They have done a pretty good job of reporting. They seem to be trying to hold the media hysteria to a minimum.

I have a feeling this story will change hour by hour for a LONG time!![]()
My LDS just called. We were supposed to dive the Oriskany Fri. MBT reported that BP closed the USS Oriskany down to diving this morning.
How can BP close it?
NOAA or the Coast Guard maybe... but what gives BP the authority?
