There are two factors - time zone (and location within the time zone) & distance from the equator - that have a bearing on the timing of sunrise/sunset.

Latitude & longitude both have an effect.

Sharky pointed out the equator effect & you suggested he had been "overserved" ;-)

Edited to add:
Fargo, ND (46.9N, 96.8W) Civil Twilight = 9:26 CDT
Houston, TX (29.7N, 95.2W) Civil Twilight = 8:30 CDT
Almhttp://www.scubaboard.com/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=5235831ost an hour difference & largely due to the latitude.
Okay on reconsideration perhaps I did discount the latitude effect with increases in daylight hours further north too much. The four have almost the same longitude, but as we move north...
Cancun Today - Central 06:11 19:16 13:05

Birmingham Today - Central 05:50 19:38 13:48

Nashville Today - Central 05:44 19:43 13:59

Indianapolis Today - Eastern 06:34 20:49 14:15
So yeah, the further north you are this time of year, the earlier sunrise and later sunset on GMT for the same longitude due to the increase in daylight hours. The differences in time zones for the same longitude makes it a little complex.

The longitude is the bigger factor, but the latitude is in play. :thumb:

Birmingham, along with the rest of Alabama, is in the CENTRAL time zone. Eastern ends at the Georgia-Alabama border...

TY, thot that looked odd, but I had checked - at a glance at least. Dang there after several Birminghams, and I think I glanced at NJ, even tho I used another source to get Birmingham AL sunset times.

Should I try to edit?

Went back to one post and replaced with "My bad, had a few things wrong - reconsidered below..."

I hate it when I go to prove a point, am right, but use incorrect logic. :silly:

Ahhhh, A Cozumel sunset and a cold Cervasa... I also recommend a Cozumel Sunrise on the East side with a bottle of Champagne. Michael and I did both on the same day to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Very special. Of course only on a sit out day..:-)

Sitting on the porch, feet up on the railing, drinking a margarita. Nothing to do tomorrow but dive.
oooh I wish I was there. It's still only in the 50's here.
