Greetings,

I recently purchased a RIX SA-6A compressor that has some parts that are in less than desirable shape.

I have completed the conversion from gas to electric, but the compressor heads were shot - gas could flow backwards.

Eric at RIX has been very helpful, and I am most of the way through an overhaul.

I am hoping to find a few used parts that would reduce my overhaul costs. I am in need of a 2nd stage moisture separator as the spinner is seized.

I would also like to replace:
1st piston
3rd stage piston cylinder
aluminum 2nd cylinder head with stainless
2nd stage cooling coil 3/8" O.D. plus fittings
3rd stage cooling coil (maybe)

Any hints on getting the 3rd stage cylinder wall out would be greatly appreciated (1st and 2nd already replaced due to scoring). Eric suggested frozen peas in the cylinder, but it did not work due to the cold weather.

I have not managed to get a Teflon O-ring installed on a plug correctly even after soaking in boiling water; is there a trick to getting it on without leaving it stretched?

I found a HP air spool (from regulator gauges) stuck in the end of the 3rd stage tubbing at the fitting to the moisture separator - is this a fix for a leaking coil? I would expect it to cause problems as a flow restriction so I removed it.

Thanks,

Keith

I think I salvaged the canister for the moisture separator.

Since it was quite stuck, I drilled into the top of the spinner hoping that this would break it free from the tower. It did not work. I took the remainder to work and had the spinner tapped as 7/8-14 after trying an easy out. With a 4" bolt and a block of wood over the top of the tower I was able to pull the spinner loose, but it took quite a bit of force. my mistake was in drilling out the spinner to 3/8" prior to trying to pull it out. It made the bolt needed hard to find as well and leaving the walls of the spinner too thin. If I were to try this again, I would tap for a 3/8" thread which would probably leave the spinner in better shape.

Good news is that RIX only charges $30 for the spinner as appose to $500 for the 2nd stage separator.

Once I get the towers cleaned up I am going to try leak testing the stainless tubing connections.

Wish me luck.

Keith

Look on ebay there is currently one at 50.00 with 2 bids. May be cheaper to get that than the cost of parts and lessons learned. I used rix compressor for search string.

Don't bid on that one on ebay....it's a fraud.
I bought it about 4 months ago.
