Hi Guys

Heading back to Cozumel in April with my wife. Just wondering how much you guys tip your dive masters? I'm doing 5 days of 2 tank trips with the same operation. Do you do a percentage of the cost of the total diving package?

Just curious as to what is the norm.

Thanks

Chris

5 dollars per boat dive to the boat! Crew splits it! Unless you ask the DM for something special! Then??? Depending on service!

From what I read somewhere on the Internet (that was a while back, sorry I don't remember where), 10% is about the norm on Cozumel (with people giving more or less depending on how satisfied they were with the DM and boat captain).
I personnally gave 200 pesos/day, more than 10% but I was real happy with the staff.

My husband and I dive together so we give $20 for both of us for a 2 tank per person dive. That is split between the DM and the captain.

I tip $20.00 U.S. for the 2 of us every day and try to have the money in bills easily split up on the boat. Just by reading these other posts I think others are more generous. This year I will tip in pesos instead of dollars because I read somewhere that citizens will now be taxed on their tips. With pesos it should be easier for them to hide the tips? I have observed others tipping once at the end of their few days of diving and while it looks impressive to hand over hundred dollar bills I wonder if it is shared equally by all the divemasters who were on the boat for those few days as well as the captain. Anyone have any thoughts?

Not specific to Cozumel, but I tip $5.00\tank. If there was some special assistance to me or the dive was just supertacular, I'll add more.

$10/per per person per 2 tank dive

The problem with dive ops in Cozumel is that they spoil you, which I never fully appreciated until diving in other parts of the Carribean. My husband and I tip a total of $25 for a day of two tank dives when in Cozumel. In other locations where we have 18 + divers on a boat, you change your own tanks, and schlep all of your gear off the boat after each day $20 for both our two tank dives is my standard tip. Everyone has opinions on this topic. In my experience, Cozumel dive ops work incredibly hard and provide amazing service.
