I saw a guy on a boat that had his sewn down the arm of his boat coat. Looked impressive. Why not display them? Its that or use them as coasters.

Ya, I hear yall. I am not about impressing anyone, I really do not care what they think, and actually I really do not much care to talk about anything on a dive boat.
now in the airport if you see my bag and ask about diving and I am leaving to go someplace fun then I am very talky. I might also be able to get you into a course or back diving. of course on the trip back the reverse is true. I do not care to have them on a wall at the house because it just reminds me that I am in a house and not on a boat.
I have considered having them sewn into a quilt with all of my Sailing Regatta t-shirts but my wife is not impressed either, she was there for it all.
I guess the only place they have any value is if seen away from diving when they would strike up a conversation about starting or getting back to diving. I am just not the type to wear a "colors" jacket. Maybe sewed to my Ski jacket, (not :D)

Aint that the truth!

I have never really understood why people are so ambivolent about the patches. If you earned that level of diver training then why not? It should be a personal preference and not something so influenced by one side or another.

I make sure all our instructors display all their instructor level diplomas on the wall in the classroom because I feel it gives them and the shop credability with our students and divers who come into the shop. If someone else feel differently, fine, but it has worked very well for us in our business.

Who hands out badges? I've never received a badge for any cert that I've received. Not that it matters...as someone else suggested, I let my diving speak for me. However, if someone chooses to regale me with tales of daring-do and near misses, I'll politely listen, smile, and go on about my dive.

How about a bikini made out of badges... That'd be interesting.

Ya If I was say YouTube - PADI Audition then yes a bikini made from patches would be cool, unfortunately, for me it would just be gross.

I am liking the coaster idea more and more.

Better a bikini and not a speedo...

What has garnished respect for me is my age, beard, and good, well used equipment. (that may not always work!) After the first dive, others just seem to know who is worthy or not anyway.

This 3 star general came up to dive Nanaimo off my friends charter boat. He wore his PADI badges with pride in fact he seemed more proud of his diving accomplishments than his military accomplishments.
I never worry about what other people think, if I want to do something I'll do it.
Wear your badges with pride buddy.

OK so you have been doing the instruction game awhile and now you have a pile of nice badges that came with your certifications. If you do a search here on SB you will discover that there is a stigma against displaying them proudly on a dive trip. OK so what do you do with them? There is not any rank in diving but we do say things like a "higher level of diving" so how come I cant display my badges? I earned them, they gave them to me? and they might save me from listening to a nublits silly story about the time he dove to 60 ft and almost died when he discovered he had 300# of air.

I do not want to be the "look at me, I'm the Dude" kind of thing but I would like it known That I can teach 10 specialties if that were the case.

My latest idea is to sew them to my dive bag, that way it is not in your face on my chest or anything, but subtle. any thoughts Ideas on placement of the badges or should I just toss them and :shakehead: . unfortunately I was in the USMC and I like the Badges, What am I to do?

...having been in the USMC, I'd have thought you'd be more into TATOOS, not badges ? ...maybe you could just do tatoos all over your body for all your certs ?
