Suddenly I'm hearing Tom Waits in the background ...

It's a friend, and it's a companion
And it's the only product you will ever need
Follow these easy assembly instructions
it never needs ironing
Well it takes weights off hips, bust
thighs, chin, midriff
Gives you dandruff, and it finds you a job
it is a job
And it strips the phone company free
take ten for five exchange
And it gives you denture breath
And you know it's a friend, and it's a companion
And it gets rid of your traveler's checks
It's new, it's improved, it's old-fashioned
Well it takes care of business
never needs winding
Never needs winding
never needs winding
Gets rid of blackheads, the heartbreak of psoriasis
Christ, you don't know the meaning of heartbreak, buddy
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon
'Cause it's effective, it's defective ...

... :D

Both of those dives were "resort dives". I am getting open water certified in a few weeks in Vegas, Lake Mead.

Both times there were 8 folks signed up and I was the only one that showed. Very cool having one on one with the DM.

I am going back to Nevis next February and can't wait to get back out there.

Stay safe.

Saw your profile. Did both of those dives in St. Kitts and Nevis. Was one of the best vacations I ever took.[/QUOTE]

Was your dive op out of Nevis? If so, was the DM Deuce?

Thought I'd toss a post into the mix...

I get all kinda of questions at the local sites about my rig. When I'm local, I almost exclusively dive a hogarthian double configuration...just b/c of preference. This usually gets all kinds of looks and questions from the passing diver during surface intervals. I just politely answer with whatever seems appropriate. In many cases, I've invited curious divers to strap themselves into the harness ...just to see how it feels. Most of the time, they have positive feedback and begin asking about cost and availability.

The only crap I've gotten was during a recent trip (single tank hogarthian config) where I tagged-along with a friend's OW class. The instructor felt it necessary to comment on how I should be setting up the rig, to include letting me know all that I was doing wrong...and telling me that I "need" to invert my canister so that the switch is on the bottom (i currently have no problem reaching it in its current configuration). In addition, I was questioned and poked about my rocketfins...and how I should get with technology. My response was something like... "when I want to move-out, they do the job...Have you ever tried back-kicking in split-fins?"

IMHO, although appropriate gear config is very important, it is not representative of skill in the water...which was apparent by the the instuctor's incessant flailing, entanglements, and basic inability to no make a mess of the viz (i guess power-flutters on the bottom will do that). Usually, I tend to openly listen to whatever criticism comes my way with the intent on using it productively for my own growth and development, but upon seeing his sub-surface performance, I could only chuckle through my 2nd stage.

My only regret was that there wasn't an underwater brass orchestra to play along with his flailing hands...I'd be curious to hear what it would've sounded like.

So...the moral of this story is...always take it with a grain of salt...be a thinking diver, do your research, and make informed and sane decisions.

"So...the moral of this story is...always take it with a grain of salt...be a thinking diver, do your research, and make informed and sane decisions. " And check the dates so you don't answer a 4 year old post :) Welcome to the board.

Wow...I've seen some "necros" on SB, but 4 years? This one is REALLY long in the tooth!

Thought I'd toss a post into the mix...

And you waited the better part of FIVE YEARS to join the discussion too!

:eyebrow:

I'm always curious to understand how people even FIND five year old threads? I mean, even if you searched for BP/W threads, you'd still have to wade through dozens of pages of search results to find this one.
