Yep that is Coop! Dan and Curt were working o getting enough dives for their DM stuff. Took them to Cypress to try out a spring. Worse conditions I have ever seen at cypress was the day I brought them.

Hey Glen is that dan in the 3rd pic?

I think morrison is out for sure!

The day that Elba flooded water was coming over the berm at Cypress. We had to get Harold to carry our stuff down to the spring on his John Deere and we walked through knee deep water on Saturday to the spring and nipple deep water when the dive was finished. On Sunday the water breeched the Berm and we had to move to Vortex. There was a mark on a tree that indicated water level the year that the I-10 bridge washed out on the Choctawhatchee. I think that was in 1989.

I was standing at the dive shop at Vortex and it was raining so hard I couldn't see the spring. We learned that the levee at Elba breeched and we had to go all the way to Andalusia to get home. At one time I called a friend in Montgomery and asked them to look at a map to ensure I was on a road that would eventually get me north of the Pea River. At one time I was thinking of calling Sears to Fedex me a pirouqe.

The problem with Cypress during flooding is paddling upstream in Holmes Creek. If you have a Jon boat with motor there is no problem.

Have you herd from him since he left town?

Actually I spoke with him today. He is supposed to stop by and see me tomorrow on his way back out of town.

That is insane Tom. I have seen that high water mark and it is hard to fathom that much water pouring in there. I remember all that rain and water hitting our area, but I wasn't diving at that time so I don't know how it impacted a lot of the places we dive today. It was high in the pictures I posted...but nothing like you are talking about.

I'm leaving for vortex in the morning, I might give him a call. Maybe try and meet up with him for lunch or something.
