Anyone with insight or experience diving the 12 mile banks fuel barge? Our group will be on GC next week with access to boats. Would love to here more about this wreck site. Thanks.

I understand that it is a flat top barge at 100 feet with no penetration & might have been moved in recent storms. And is usually dived with Nitrox. Often lots of current. Try Ocean Frontiers or Ambassador for more info.

Hi DiveDocMD,

For a while, Divetech Grand Cayman scuba diving cayman island scuba diving cayman island scuba resort cayman scuba training cayman cayman island scuba grand cayman scuba dive cayman islands scuba diving scuba diving in grand cayman scuba diving cayman scuba diving on gran offered a trip to 12 Mile Banks if conditions allowed. It was never available while I visited so I was unable to take advantage. The trip is no longer listed on their website, however, they may be able to offer you suggestions or recommendations if you email them divetech@candw.ky

Divetech does offer a fantastic DPV dive from Cobalt Coast to Lighthouse Point that you might also enjoy for something a little different.

Good diving, Craig

Dive trips to 12 mile banks can very rarely be offered due to the sea conditions in offshore waters. Planning would likely be on a day-to-day basis and you should expect cancellation(s) and/or postponement(s).

Interesting to see this thread. I was just on the Island and was inquiring about whether 12 mile bank was diveable. Most of the locals seem to think I'm crazy. :)

Thanks for your response. I did the dpv dive a couple years ago with buddies when we left Cobalt Coast and went down to their old location at Turtle farm. A lot of fun and a great way to see lots of territory!

Since we will have access to a boat a subset of our group are going to try to find this wreck site. We have gotten gps coordinates to get us in the area but I think it will still take some hunting around. It will also depend on weather and sea conditions. If we're successful I'll report back.

it;'s a fun full day, coral is great, as stated current can run hig, much more life than you normally see in cayman and expect some curious sharks. It is mostly a fishing area so they know boats bring meals and will hang around

The barge...well it's a barge and pretty boring. Make that very boring.
