I already have a trip booked at Catalonia Riviera Maya in December. Because I'm going with a non-diving friend I'm thinking of adding on a week at the beginning to go to Cozumel. I can probably change my flight to Cancun and then book a separate flight to Cozumel. But then how do I get from Cozumel to Puerto Aventuras at the end of the week? Do I take the ferry to Playa del Carmen and then get a taxi? Do I fly back to Cancun and take a shuttle? I'm not a super-energetic person, so I don't want to do something that's going to be exhausting.

Is this plan crazy? Should I just go to Puerto Aventuras for two weeks instead?

Thanks for any help!

Lisa

If your friend is a non-diver, I'm not sure what either of you would do on Cozumel for a week, except you hate that you can't dive, and them running out of things to do in about two or three days. If you are going to be on the mainland, take advantage of the other side of the Yucatan that many people don't experience to the extent that they should. We have a trip planned for this December, in which we will be flying into Cancun, renting a car, driving to Uxmal for three or four days of visiting the Mayan sites, and then driving to Playa del Carmen for three days of diving (two ocean, one cenote). At Uxmal, we will be staying at the Villas Arqueologicas Mexico, Hotels & Resorts which is a really neat property. We have also stayed at the one in Coba and Chichén Itzá. Each one of them is close by to the primary ruin site.

Just a thought.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I'd be going to Cozumel by myself with the purpose of getting in as much diving as possible before I meet my friend in Puerto Aventuras. When we're in PA I'll probably dive only 3 days. We'll both visit Tulum, but I'm not really into ruins, so she may go to some of the others on days when I'm diving. We're staying at Catalonia Riviera Maya.

Also, it looks like it might make more sense to take the ferry to Cozumel. I was just reading about it on the Aldora site.

Yeh there is no need to fly from Cozumel to Cancun, better take the ferry to Playa del Carmen and then take a taxi or even a bus to Puerto Aventuras...

Enjoy the diving in Cozumel though it is very world class

Getting from Cozumel is really easy. Take the ferry from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen, 140.00 pesos (11.00 usd) and then take a taxi to Puerto Aventuras 180 - 200.00 pesos (16.00 - 18.00 usd) It is very straight forward travelling to Puerto from Cozumel and if you take the 8:00 am ferry you should be in Puerto around 9:20 am.

Cheers,

Dennis

Taking a bus to Puerto would mean a 15 to 20 minute walk through town to the Catalonia with all your gear. :( if you know where to go.

I'll have to take a taxi. I don't know the meaning of the term "pack light," and now with all the scuba gear, I'm sure I'll be a sight to behold!

I think I might go with Scuba Club Cozumel. I like what I'm reading about it.
