I am just asking for some suggestions for cheap housing on Curacao for about a week that would include a kitchen(ette). I will be doing some diving, but I will have spent ~1 week in Bonaire first, so on Curacao, I plan on doing other things, like exploring, siteseeing, nightlife, etc.

I am not looking for nor need luxurious and/or resort type housing. Just someplace safe, clean, cheap, and w/cooking facility and parking for a car rental. Perhaps you can share some suggestions and personal experiences?

Thanks!

Hi parachute,

This is Andreas from All West Apartments & Diving on Curacao. Our apartments could be an option for you, though I have to admit that all Curacao nightlife isn't really just around the corner. But with a rental car you can move anywhere, and the close-by dive sites are superb.

Maybe you want to have a look at a trip report of a recent guest:

If you'd like to know more details, you may always send me an email to andreas@allwestcuracao.com.

Greetings

Andreas

Hey Buckeye,

Some more info is needed to really give you some suggestions:
How many people are in your party?
What are the dates you will be in Curacao? Places have different priced seasons.
Cheap: Are you talking $100-$150/night or $150-$200/night?

Where in Ohio are you? I'm from Cincinnati.

Parachute,
Well, not having the particulars, but knowing that you are looking for some nightlife, exploring and has a kitchen, I would look for accommodations on the East side of the island. There is really no light life on West end. From the east, you can still travel to the west end for sightseeing and snorkeling/diving. You may want to look at the following places that are 'cheaper' and have cooking facilities:
Atlantis Apartments
Lions Dive
Chogogo Resort
Alablanca Apartments
Home-Sweet Home Apartments

We also have a 2 bedroom Apartment with a full kitchen & dive locker that rents for $175/night for 2 people. For more information, please contact: info@Flamingo-Villa.com

1 (solo).

Probably either Aug5-12, or Aug 12-9.

Searching thru some some lodging sites, it appears that in Curacao (as opposed to Aruba & Bonaire) some of the hotels have 2 "peak" seasons for pricing, winter, and part of summer.

Cheap: Are you talking $100-$150/night or $150-$200/night?

Oh, I'm cheaper than that... :D Looking for <$100. I do not have to be on the water, as I plan on renting a car.
I've had little problems finding decent apartment-style housing on Aruba & Bonaire for $60-80/night. I had assumed that it would be even easier on Curacao since it's a much bigger, more populated island, but I am not finding this to be the case.....

Ahh, here are 2 rental sites to try that will have a lot of places under $100, though I do not know which ones have a kitchen(ette).

We spent over a week in Curacao in 2007.
There is really no night life on West end.
Seriously true, we found that out also. It was hard to find a bar in that area. Or anything open much after 9pm.

An option in west Willemsted to consider:

Piscadera Bay Resort.

It's located in Piscadera Bay, a resort/convention area. Although they're probably bigger than you need at 2BR's they're also $103/nt. Plus a one time cleaning chg. It's a quiet/gated complex with parking at each unit. A/C in the bedrooms only as is the style in the N.A.

They're older but recently refurbished, all three that my group rented had 4 burner cooktops and microwaves, full size refrigerators and indoor/outdoor eating spaces. But none had an oven. My friends had the best of the three, #4 as I recall, it had ocean views. A couple have pools but I don't think they rent those. My unit had about 1/2 US electric plugs also - something we hadn't considered.

A local dive/beach bar - Hooks Hut - is 2mins. away. The diveshop picture on the PBR website above was shot there. The Marriott and the Hilton are just down the street, both have outdoor bars, indoor bars, pool bars and small Casinos, the Marriott had an outdoor party on Friday on the beach somewhere. (maybe other nights but we heard it on Fri)

Piscadera Bay got pretty quiet at night. There's a couple other resorts/restaurants in the area but everything else is a short drive downtown - about a 10-15 min drive. It's also about a 20 min drive to some very good diving west of town or 20 mins. east to the SeaAquarium area - a more touristy part of Willemsted. The closest market is a mile or so back towards the airport. It's called Centrum, you'll pass it on the right driving from the airport to PB.

You won't get into Lions Dive for less than about $175/nt. we looked at it also. And it's $75 more if you go AI there. My guess would be that anything in that area is similarly priced. Too much for us...

hth,

Hi Parachute,

Check out Sea Horizon and Parrot Hill, both on this page of our website, both in the Willemstad area so close to nightlife, shops, diving, whatever you need. Iguana Inn is gorgeous but more expensive.
The Dive Bus - Dive Bus Accommodations

There's also some newly opened ones, Happy Turtle apartments (great name!) which are opposite Parrot Hill.

Good luck with your search :o)
