I was in a dive shop last week, looking for 1 air fill and 1 nitrox fill... When the owner of the shop showed up, I was waiting at the door with 2 cylinders, one AL80 with no special markings and one HP119 marked with a Nitrox label. I told him that the al80 was to be filled with air and the 119 to be filled with 36%. No problem, started bleeding the gas from the 119 and hooked the al80 up to the fill whip. Filled the al80 and them began filling the 119 (which ended up at 40.3%). I was in a bit of a rush, so I didn't bother getting it bled down and put at 36% like I had asked for. Anyhow, at no point during this entire process was I asked for not only an open water cert, but a nitrox cert... This was a shop that I had never been in in my life and had never met the shop owner in my life. At no point did he even ask me if i was even cetified!

Ah but you're wrong. The three most widely accepted scuba certification agencies in the world are AMEX, VISA, or CASH. I'm relatively sure you produced at least one of these fine certifications. BTW because of additional fees involved with the other two CASH is highly preferred.

I've only gotten nitrox fills a couple of times, and quite a few air fills. All nitrox was at my friendly neighborhood LDS(my favorite of the 7 within 10 miles of me), the air fills at various shops. I have never been asked for a C-card.

I get asked for a C card when getting on dive boats. Never really see anyone get asked for their C cards here in North Florida, I guess they might ask if they got some sort of hint that you had no idea what you were doing....

In South Florida, they ask EVERY time.

yeah it depends where you are

here in Jax, the town shops won't sell you gas unless you show a card ... annoys the heck out of me so i don't buy from them

in the cave diving area just west of here, i've never been asked for a card to get a fill

to get into the state parks, you have to show a card; all of the private springs that have shops ask for a card (Ginnie, Blue Grotto, Devil's Den, etc.). to get on a boat, you need a card.

Well, down in Miami I got asked to put my cert. info on a waiver, but was never once asked to show a card. Up in PA, diving at Dutch Springs I have been asked to show a card upon purchasing a season pass.

Never, these days. Even at new stores or charters, for air, nitrox or charter dives, locally or interstate. Guess I must look qualified now :rofl3:

Just up in Tobermory, Ontario, got doubles topped up, no questions asked. But, then, I dive that shop a lot. I'm on their computer.
