So, Phil made me pick him up from work 3 1/2 hours before our flight. Its only about a 45 min ride to the airport but, I promised him that this vacation we would do things his way. I must say, not being freaked out that we might miss our flight was a new experience. We got thru security 2 hours before our flight so, we had a leisurely dinner at the Internet Cafe restaurant. I'm used to barely having time to grab a bag of chips and starving so, again, new experience. We went halfsies on the fish and chips dinner and Chicken Marsala. I didn't want to give up the second 1/2 of the Fish and Chips but, again, we're trying out doing things Phil's way. Phil managed to leave his Sylvester Stallone, 70's bada$$ mirrored shades at the table. He's going to complain about it the rest of the trip so, I am on the hunt for a new pair.

The flight from Houston to Bonaire sucked. We picked our seats when we bought the tickets but, for whatever reason, no longer had them. So, we were separated. I was in the very back with a window seat. The plane was full and I swear, the seats and room to breath is smaller and smaller. I couldn't even rest my head on my tray. I slept with my face propped on the back of the seat in front of me. I won't complain anymore about the flight or customs or any of this morning because, I am in Bonaire.

We were exhausted by the time we made it to The Golden Reef Inn. Had a quick breakfast which was as yummy as I remembered from the last time. The apartment is clean and we had cheese, bread and pear juice waiting for us in the fridge. I let Phil take care of all the car and check in stuff and passed out.

By the time we got up, unpacked, and gear ready it was 3 pm. We're using Wannadive as our shop and I like em. They even leave Nitrox tanks at the Golden Reef. No issues with deciding to do a 3 am dive as tanks are always available. Very happy about that.

Our first dive was our check out dive on the house reef at Eden Beach. The weather wasn't that great. Cloudy, windy and we were warned of bad current. Well, it was nothing like they warned. The only thing we noticed was a 2ft surge in the shallows and maybe 1ft at depth. We saw Spotted moray, Goldentail, that white spotted snakey eel (don't remember name) trumpet, drum, flounder, and on the way back right before the dock in about 7ft of water was a tiny pink anenome with about 4 of the tiniest of those brown and white striped shrimp. My friend Stu calls them sexy shrimp because they shake their butt at you. It was a lovely, relaxing hour long dive. I love diving like that. No stress on time limit or how many dives you do. I must have followed that flounder for about 10 minutes.

Dropped everything off at the apt and decided to just drive until we see a restaurant.
Ended up at the Bistro de Paris. Eh, realized when we walked in that it was one of the 'nicer' places. I am too proud to walk out of a place like that so, in our salt soaked shorts, t-shirts, baseball hats, and flip flops we dined in luxury. We both had Beef Tenderloin gratinated with Brie, Truffle oil, whipped mashed potatoes, and fois gras butter. It was lovely and the staff was very friendly. I give it a AAA+

Planning on a night dive on the same reef and then tomorrow to head south to the more exciting reefs.

That is all.

Oh and I found a crack in my Camera Housing O'ring so, no UW pics yet.

Will pick up a new one tomorrow. Hopefully.

kewl .... sounds wonderful... maybe I should start trying to convince fish to go to Bonaire?

so now its ... Yongala, Coolidge and Bonaire ... plus other places I cant remember

Looking forward to uodates Tigg

The night dive was interesting. Going out there was no current but, coming back it was ripping in our direction. If it had been like that when we started, we would have bailed.

We were followed by a pretty big brightly colored fish the first 3/4 of the dive. He had like parrot fish colors but, not a parrot face. He was just following the lights hunting. But, then, a big ol tarpon moved in and took his place. He got pretty close a few times. Kind of freaked me out a little. Found this little anenome again with about a dozen of those brown and white striped shrimp. Some of them were the size of a pin head. The big find of the dive was coming back, I saw this brick and on the far side was a nice sized scorpian fish.

Phil is claiming he saw a Whale Shark but, I think he is just trying to one up me because of the Scorpian fish. The bugger. :)

sounds great!

don't you wish your girlfriend could dive like me?

Tiggr,

Just returned from Bon yesterday and we had a great trip and I hope you do too. The rain on Thurs and Fri did mess up the viz a little. I hope you have a rain free week with plenty of great diving.
