Hey, please don't kill me for putting in my 2 1/2 cents, but great job on the weight loss. My biggest challenge in life has been fighting with being overweight, and that has translated into my diving as well.

Several years ago before my first wife left me I had lost 80 pounds in 3 months, started feeling really good about myself, and then marital problems finally overcame us and we split and eventually divorced, my life seeming over to me I lived on fried cheese sticks and stuffed jalapeno’s for about 6 months, before I knew it I had gained all the weight back and then some.

A year ago I had bariatric surgery (lap band) and lost about 50 pounds but then as the holidays came around I found myself gaining weigh again and in extreme depression.

The lap band surgery only assists you in weight loss; you still have to be in the right frame of mind and willing to make the right choices or else it will not be effective at all.

Since I have learned the lap band is not as effective as I would have hoped I have now gone back to my previous method of weight loss; that is becoming healthier, living better, and gaining control over my previous out of control lifestyle. Most importantly I am doing it without hunger and a lot of exercise. True I am going to the gym 3 days a week but that is to play racquetball with my stepson ( I just discovered this great sport about 2 months ago and even though I’m going for surgery next week for a torn tendon in my foot/ankle –not related to the game, I am still playing).

My secret is high water content foods, proper food combinations and never becoming “hungry”. I have learned the principles of letting my body work effectively and efficiently to attain the size it needs to be.

If anyone is interested in more detail I’d be happy to tell you in more detail (no I have no diet plans to sell), I just like giving people alternative to standard diet techniques. I learned the principles from reading a book called fit for life, there is a newer edition out but I haven’t read it. I just took the basic concept and tailored it to fit my needs, and like I said I lost 80 pounds in 3 months, this time around I’m being more careful and going slower because that really was too fast. Currently I’ve lost about 25 pounds in the last couple of months, without hunger and fad diets. Just by eating healthy foods in the right combinations.

great job everyone. and kudos to you michiganscott........that's admirable. I'm doing good this week. yesterday however, i felt i was coming down w/a stomach virus......didn't ever hurl, but felt really crappy. still have some stomach pains today, but feel much better. went home from work yesterday and went straight to bed. got up about 10pm and had a bowl of cereal since i was starving. that did make me have to skip the gym today, but that's ok. i should feel up to it tomorrow. doing good on my eating. it's great we're doing this. it's motivating hearing from all of you. and divemaven.........we are going to bonaire the same week, right? july 3-11. there's nothing like the thought of being in a swimsuit to make you get serious, right? lolol

Yes, we'll be there the same time as you, though we're arriving on June 27 and leaving July 11....2 weeks of heaven!! :D But you're right, the prospect of spending 2 weeks in a swimsuit is VERY motivating...but add to that carrying gear and tanks to/from the dives is enough to get me on the treadmill for sure. :blinking:

Good morning girls and guys ;)

May you all eat and drink healthy today.

Yesterday’s menu

6 green grapes & 1/2 bagel

Large Salad

4 Strawberries

chicken breast (no skin) steamed veggies and small portion 1/4 cup stuffing

1 orange

Happy Thursday

good morning all. tummy is getting better. should be back in the gym tomorrow morning. i have lost a total of 2 lbs. it's a decent start! yes, divemaven..........the shore diving will require more effort compared to the "valet" boat diving we did last summer on little cayman! i always kinda fall off the wagon as far as working out during the holidays, and then eat too much, then have a hard time getting started again. one of these years, i'm gonna make it entirely around that calendar!!!

Good job divergal & donnad !!!!!!
& great story scott.

Often why you are eating is just as important as what you are eating :)
Stick to planned meals and snacks -- emotional eating doesn't really do anything for but pack on the pounds (better to find a hug)
but if you must -- then best to stick to crunchy celery ;-).

Scott I'm interested in healthy food combining can you share more--or comment on what I've already been doing?

Personally I'm trying to pick up protein with every meal, lots of veggies, fruits, a little fat and low volume complex carbohydrates (mostly eaten 1 hour before workout). A tiny bit of taste indulgance so I don't crave food too much - Wine is my splurge. I follow a good rule: food needs to actually resemble the food group it came from - in other words no processed food - like can you tell what type of plant a cheeto or glass of cocola comes from by looking at it? YIKES!

Speaking of workout, this weeks been busy and i've been a bit lax with the gym. Today will try to get in for chest/shoulders/tri & cardio. At this, point tone is as important as loss.

But excited to see my true waist line emerging (a little bit of abs are peeking through)- it's been a while ;). And yes when this is all over - gonna reward myself with a bikini shopping spree :D! Last attempt wasn't so happy :shakehead:.

Food is good - my only slip is 2 glasses of red wine instead of one :D. But wt is coming off fast so not too concerned.

Decided to casualy check in on the scale every few weeks just to make sure things are progressing in a positive direction.

food was good again today. but feel like I'm slacking on exercise - busy with mid terms but should still make time. Today only a 30 min walk - tomorrow I need to hit the gym.

Eating has been going great for me this weekend, but haven't gotten on my treadmill in 2 days. I'm going to try to get on it today, but I'm super pleased that I've been able to stick to my diet resolve, so at least that's positive.

Anyone else starting to feel MUCH better with the changes in their diet/exercise program? I have to say that since cutting out sugar and starches from my life I sleep better, I don't feel dragged down mid-day, and I no longer feel hungry every couple of hours. I also no longer have cravings for sugar, which is making things much easier. ;)

Wow my body is starting to feel much better! Clothes are getting looser Food is still pretty good, but did not as much exercise as I'd like this weekend - very busy.

My challenge now is to stick with the program - I feel much happier with my body but just 3-4 more lbs will make a big difference. I can see myself becoming a little bit sloppy with food & exercise - Nope - time to stop it & get busy again!

Gotta keep diciplined just a few more weeks, till the month is up & I'll be so happy!

Zena , so great that you're feeling a difference! Way to go girl - Keep it up!
