This is a great forum, great information.

I want to dive Minot Beach this summer, so I drove down there, took a look. I couldn't find any public parking, aside from 1 hr parking in front of the post office. Every other lot along Glades Road, from Gannett St. to the northern end was "resident parking only". Any advise for parking strategies? Thanks a million.

I cant help you with Minot beach; but this is my reason for composing a book on shore diving in NE. It will only cover the sites Ive actually dove; but of the 300+ dives I have done, 85% are shore dives. Ive spent hours drawing bathymetry using Autocad-Illustrator-Indesign and have added some nice graphics to spruce it up. Hopefully I can get a product out in 2009 with revisions as I explore more of the coast in MA and ME.

Parking at Minot is tighter than a duck's @ss.

The only available parking in Scituate I know of is at Scituate light, at the mouth of the harbor. It's rocky and probably a good bug site, but the boat traffic is horrendous.

Matt and I eyeballed it for a while one day and agreed we didn't think it wise.

This might be one of those "drop your gear off and ride back" deals.

I noticed a variety store down Hatherly Rd. about two miles. I might ask them if I could park there for a fee and ride my bike back...

This looks like an amazing sight to dive and an amazing beach overall. It's a shame Scituate doesn't make it more accessible.

There definitely is public parking at Minot beach. Scituate had to grant public parking spaces because they took federal money to improve the beach. I believe the spaces are out toward the post office and we would normally dump our gear first and then park and walk back. I have not dove this site in the last couple of years though. I think you just need to get there early because the spaces(3 I think) fill up early. I have a buddy that dives this site a lot and likes it. I on the other hand am not wild about it. The president of our club was talking about this rumor at one of our recent meetings which is how I know that there definitely is paring. It may even be mentioned in one of our older newsletters.

South Shore Neptunes

There used to be more parking but I am pretty sure a developer recently purchased some property down there and built some fancy town homes right next to the dive site. I think part of that deal sucked up most of the parking. there are two spots directly infront of the post office but I think they are both 15 minute parking for the P.O.

Anyone know how i can get a post office gig at that location? damn!

Minot probably represent the best depth on the southshore for shore dives.

Where ya been matey? Long time no see. Can we drag yer butt to Lovells this year?

Back on topic, there's about 50-60 feet of depth off Smith Rocks, which form a nice vertical surface for bug and rock cod hunting.

There used to be parking on your right before the sea wall starts. In the past, I have dropped off gear and then drove to the parking spots at the start of the wall. As someone mentioned, they may not still be there.

I've dove there once or twice and it was OK. At high tide it might be fun just to follow the rocks (the glades) for a while......sunken ledge is probably only a 1/2 mile kick out once you get near Strawberry point :) I was recovered a HUGE whale vertebrae off there. While it's true that the feds almost kicked down my door when word spread that I had found, it was a cool fine while before I had to turn it in....

If you are looking for winter diving, I used to go to Pegotty beach quite a bit. During the winter non-residents could park there. Not a bad dive at all, especially at this time of the year.
