It is frustrating to read some of the negative things people post. Especially when they are going out of their way to be mean. A lot of people leave here for that reason. There's another board that tries to go out of their way to not be like SB. Doesn't say much for SB reputation.

:blinking:Well I did have a bit of a rant myself before I left. :mooner:

My experience with people in the past who have told me "I don't like to beat around the bush" and "I say it like it is and call a spade a spade" tend to have an inflated idea of the value of their opinion. Those types of comments most often precede a blast that has more to do with saying what they want to say and very little to do with effective communication.
Communication is about the sender (communicator) and the receiver (listener). If the sender has poor skills and blasts the receiver the receiver shuts down, withdraws, yes sometimes get defensive. The message is not effective and the communication exchange fails.
Someone here mentioned there are many cultures represented some cultures have higher expectations for polite discussions and expressing disagreement. I think that is a factor here.
I believe I have a right to tell someone if I feel they are not meeting acceptable standards when they communicate with me. Their perceived right to "let me have it with both barrels" does not out weight my right to be treated with respect.
If the goal here really is to communicate then equal consideration must be paid to the sender and the receiver. If the goal is to have a rant, the principals of effective communication have been discarded and effective communication has been abandoned.

But I'm trying to move on and not get too "involved" in all that type of thing anymore, so for me it's easier to stay out of it and just have fun. I think things have improved though since I was last around.

Absolutely and that is one of the things I love about this thread it is all about having fun, a little teasing here and there nothing too serious (unless you try to tell HN cricket is the best sport or try to tell fish it isn't)

Some friends invited us over for a party... I said what can I bring.... he said "SEX"

We arrived and were getting out of the car on the street and he came out on the verandah and called out "I want SEX, I want SEX! hey everyone let's have "Group Sex":blush:

Should have seen me when I first moved here.... shopping... they don't call things the same here for example it took 4 years before I found out they call Cornmeal Palenta!..... once I worked it out I hooked everyone on Cornbread heheheheh
