I understand that there are some dive ops that have scooters for rent on Maui.. Does anyone know if they are available for rent for shore diving?

thanks in advance...

Jay

Shaka Doug has a couple of Torpedos.

Also, if you're on Oahu I saw a couple of X's at Island Divers Hawaaii that are rentable.

All the best, James

Tim (kidspot) should have some x scooters for you if he is still there.

For escorted shore dives, either Pacific Dive in Lahaina or Maui Dreams Dive Co. in Kihei. Last time we rented at PD, they were Apollo's. But that might've been 2001.

I don't think either rents them separately though if that's what you're looking for.

Interestingly, on Extended Horizons' web site it says "Scooter dives - currently unavailable due to Maui County Regulations" - what's that all about?

There's no Maui County regulations that have been made public about using scooters.

The only idea I can come up with there is the issue of permit enforcement and that perhaps Extended Horizons doesn't have a permit for the sites they'd take scooters.

The state DLNR has also been enforcing the boat-channel rules more at Mala Ramp... I don't know if that's maybe where that's at, too...

Of course, if Steve (halemano) or Victoria have any better idea, it would be very much appreciated!

It's possible Extended Horizons' typical scooter dive was from shore locations only designated as kite boarding / wind surfing with regards to commercial ocean recreation activities (CORA). I'm sure more than one dive op have requested permits for said sites and none have been granted.

Most of the resorts with on site dive operations offer guided scooter dives, as do most of the dive shops and as mentioned above, Shaka Doug. None of the commercial dive op's that I know of rent scooters.

I don't rent my scooters either but I can take you on a really great scooter dive if you're game.

Doug, thanks for the offer.. I will certainly consider it. Any chance I can hire you or a guide to take my arse to the F6F? there's a thread on here posted by another member with specific directions to it. The Pics of it would be a welcome addition to my personal collection.. Thanks...

I'll take you there... but I don't have scooters to make it easy. :(
