The best people you can talk to is Jocasseegirl for where else Jocassee and Diveprof for ClarskHill. Both Jocasseegirl and diveprof are both here on SB. Them 2 have the most info you will find anywhere on those two places. I haven't made it to Jocassee yet but I have made it to ClarkHill. It a great easy(That hill sucks in Doubles) dive. Dives anywhere from 20' down to 100'+. People dive it year around and there is normally people diving it every weekend.

Don't know what part of Atlanta your going to be in, but Lake Lainer is very close to Atlanta (on northside). This time of the year its dry suit diving. Lot of Florida locations are 4 to 5.5 hours away. I make several week end dive trips to Florida, always room for another diver.

Dry suits are for wimps, real men dive 60 degree water in 3 mills, but there is a little shrinkage.:D Lake Lanier does make for a good treasure hunt though, you never know what you will find on the bottom. Check out the lake Lanier looney bird forum for local dives and stuff.

:shakehead: Real men that don't have a dry suit have no choice and real men with dry suits do. :D

www.divealabama.com is the web site for Alabama Blue Water Adventures. It is about 20 minutes south of Birmingham, Al. You can get to Bham in about 2 hours from central Atlanta.

The Florida and Gulf Coast in general are great. Saltwater shore diving with tons of life and great springs diving. If you have never went diving in a Florida spring You must before you head home.

There are also plenty of boats to take you offshore. Maybe you should do the Mighty Oriskany while you are here. Then you will not have to make a special trip for it.

Now that I have made it down and have gotten rather settled in, I am itching to go diving. I am looking for clubs, people, or just good recommend sites to check out.

Basically, I will dive where it is wet, temperature is not a concern (assuming the dives are less than 2 hours) nor is visibility, though it would be nice to have something to see.

I am willing to leave on Fridays and get back late Sunday nights. Weekend trips or day trips are fine. Heck, I will even go out on a charter.

I am not tech or cave certified but since I am going to be in the area until mid-March I probably will be getting my certifications for both over the next couple of months.

Feel free to check the profile, but my basics include the following;
DM - PADI
Master Diver -NAUI
Specialties - PADI - Too many to list
# of diver 300+
Generally I dive S100 dbls but keep a singles set up
Dive both dry and wet
Have dived North East (MA, CT, RI, NH, ME, VT), Mid Atlantic (NJ, MD, NC OBX wrecks), South East (GA), North West (WA, CO) South West (NV), International - Galapagos x2, Utila Honduras.

So if your willing to show a Massachusetts based Yankee, Southern hospitality, I would love to join new people to go diving.

from what I hear lanier is bad right now. I was diving it extensively until about a year ago. we do a lot of diving at dive haven, possibly there this sunday.

clark hill is about 2.5hrs drive and some good diving, generally seems to be a bit better vis than jocasee and much better than lanier - based on my limited sample set. I'd share a drive down there with you if you're interested

There is Lake Keowee where there is the \"Hothole\" which is in 40 feet of water near the Oconee Nuclear Station (not too far from Lake Jocassee) and is in warm water from the return flow of the power plant\'s cooling system. The site is a 20 acre cove with a constant current that moves around to allow for a drift dive. This is popular for alot of divers around here in the winter time due to the warmth of the water. I think the Lake Jocassee Dive Shop can help with futher info. Happy diving!!!!!!!!!!!

Being that I drove down from Massachusetts, a 2.5 hour drive is nothing for a good dive time.

PM me to set something up.

Thanks,

they are in south carolina, about 3 hours north on I 85 just past the ga sc border, that hot hole was the coldest dive I have ever done, the water was high 60s but it was below freezing with 30 mile a hour winds and snow flurries,I bet Flightlead remembers that one.
