I hate to be the odd man out but...
I stayed at Amoray about a month ago for a dive trip to the keys. The price the room was great $80 per night. The rooms were nothing fancy, but it had a good bed, clean sheets and towels, and a clean bathroom as well. Nothing wrong with this place at all. I would stay with them again (and will) when I go back.

Keys dive operators can be selective about certifications. Some say that unless you have AOW, you are limited to 60 feet. (I recall Amoray telling me that a couple of years ago.) Some may ask about specialty certifications, too. You may wish to call and ask about the "boat policy" before you select a boat or a hotel / boat combination.

Have fun with it.

The problem is that you just never know what you will get from them. Some people report outstanding service, some people report abysmal conditions and indifferent staff. I'd stick with something that has a more consistent reputation.

I'd have to agree with Debby here. We've even had people report their dives being changed to snorkel trips.... As she said, there are too many other good ops out there with consistently good feed back.

If it were me I'd go out with Conch Republic. They can also arrange for lodging if you want them to. I don't know if they still have it but they used to have a small apartment they would rent out to their guests. They offered it to me but the wife was along and we went more upscale. Otherwise I would have taken them up.

Here's a lodging option - Key Largo Hotel, Tavernier Hotel, Key Largo Resort, Tavernier Inn; Place to stay in Islamorada Florida; luxury Resort, Inn, Upper Keys Lodging

I'm leaning towards booking their apartment. Very affordable and looks good to boot!

Non-scuba wife is booking this "surprise" trip for me for Christmas (along with college dive buddy). She is looking to book 4 days at Amoray, with 4 dives. I tried to explain to her that 4 dives would take care of the 1st day, but what do we do for the other 3? Response "That is all I budgeted for. Why can't you have a cheaper hobby?":dontknow:

I think I'll be taking over the booking for my "surprise" myself!

That's a real nice Christmas present. My wife wouldn't even think about it. At least she accommodates your hobby. ;)

Tentative dates of Jan 8 - 12. Thanks for the tip about the museum.
