We were at CoCoView the week of 10/25-11/1. This was our second trip having gone this past April too! Obviously we had a great time in April or we would not have re-booked so soon.

We traveled with a group of 17 through our LDS here in Maine, Aqua Diving Academy. We were all on the same boat together along with our DM Eddie and Captain Jorge. We also had Eddie and Jorge in April and requested them for this trip. Great guys!

The weather was horrible. Roatan has been having a heavy and early stormy season this year. Did it make for a bad time? Not at all! Except for slightly damper wetsuits in the afternoon and the need for a wind breaker on the boat between dives, it was an outstanding time. It may be that were from Maine and are used to crap dive conditions, but the worst day in Roatan is sure better than most days at home underwater! And, Im there to dive, whats a little more water! I am going to get a second wetsuit because I do hate putting on the damp Pamper in the afternoon.

Many of our dives turned into drift dives. On one morning dive we did a drift across 3 normal sites. Starting at 40 ft. Point we ended up at Gold Chain crossing Valley of the Kings.
The wreck of the Prince Albert in the front yard varied from a milk-out approaching from Newmans Wall to clear as a bell! One afternoon was even clearer than any day I remember in April. It was also very clear on Wednesday night when we did a night dive! Several times the current was fairly strong at the bend of the wall coming in CoCoView Wall. Tip on something to look at here – when you come in this wall, near the end, stop at the gap where the large pillars of wall stretch from 50 ft to less than 10 ft. and just marvel at the view. As I absorbed this spectacle, I felt like Rocky at the top of the stairs in Philly. I was just thinking This is the reason I dive!

We stayed in C4 which I over the water with a deck in the front. Most of our group was between C1 and C8 so there was a lot of between the decks conversation. Clean room and tons of space to unpack to.

CoCoView is like going to camp to me. Its a little bit rough (I dont mean dirty). It feels like you are really getting away from all that stuff that youre taking a vacation to get away from! The staff is great! Ive never been to a place before where not only did the management greet you on arriving, but they also came and said goodbye as you boarded the launch to leave the resort.
If its a Sandals you want you may not be happy here! The focus is DIVING and a lot of it! I did 26 dives and my wife did 24. Water temp was around 82!

Total clothes consisted of: 6 tee shirts; 4 pairs of shorts; 4 short sleeve shirts; 2 bathing suits; a rain slicker; underwear and the Crocs I put on when I left the house! You dont need much and youll just be re-packing clean clothes when you leave. I only wear the shorts and shirt for dinner. The majority of the day is bathing suit and tee shirt.

One thing I did this trip is take the photography course from Tim in the Dive Shop. My work improved tremendously from the coaching!

Lastly, DEET DEET DEET! I got eaten alive the last night sitting out on our deck. My legs look like I have chicken pox!

I will append pictures to this post in a few days!

Thanks for the trip report. Reading these helps me plan my vacations , too. Can't wait for the pics!

:DThanks for the report. Just put the deposit down for August 1 - 8. I can't wait.:D

How unusual!

This area you describe is marked by the "First Red Can", it is essentially just offshore of C12. Next time you are there, go exploring up in those shallows. It also makes for a spectacular night dive later. There are three distinct very wide sand chutes... the middle one, if you have superb buoyancy (and it is high tide), is an seldom travelled path back to CoCoView.

Just past the "Second Red Can" (not shown above) as you come in from the ocean (to the West of The Chain) is another interesting "back door" into CCV. Go past the mooring chain and follow the sand chute to the North. You'll soon be in the shallow Turtle Grass in front of the Gazebo. You and the Eagle Rays.

It's all pretty visible in this aerial image:

Glad you took the time to explore. It's home.

So how did they handle the dives as drifts? Did that mean you got dropped off and picked up at the end of dive (like Cozumel) or did you have to swim against the current back to the boat (I hate that).

Yeah, the weather maps have shown every day that there was rain but I was wondering if that was just an occasional shower or if you were getting pounded all day long. Sorry the weather was so bad! I hope it isn't quite so rainy when we get there. But any diving will be better than none at all for us!

Water 82 degrees but rainy - I guess its a good thing I ordered a 5mm suit for the trip from ScubaToys. Hope it gets here soon. :D
I'll take my hood, too. Yes, I get cold easy as I am a slow diver.

What dive sites did you do? Did the weather make them choose different ones that your trip in April? Just wondering...:D I am bringing video rig with new lights (yeah!!!) and hubby is bringing still camera so we will be hoping to find lots of cool subjects. :D

Can't wait to see your pictures!

Yes, just like Coz. They sure aren't gonna make you swim back 3 sites to get back on the boat!!! We didn't know until we splashed. Eddie (DM) would signal a drift, we'd surface in groups and the boat would pick us up. Note: as always let the boat come to you!

I use a 3mm shorty with a beenie! I wasn't cold in the water. Without a wind breaker is WAS cold on the boat!

Most of the same ones we did in April. We still got to Calvin's Crack and Mary's Place, but our all day trip to Port Royal($45 extra) got cancelled. If the weather is nice when you are there and you can get enough people on your boat to go this is a blast! We had an awesome time doing this in April.

I'm gonna have a hard time convincing my wife that what you listed are all the clothes that will be needed!

Sounds like fun - we've got our deposit in for April and are really looking forward to it.

For anybody who hasn't seen them, RobinT has some great stuff linked to her sig line and beyond. Looking forward to her CCV report and images!

Boy do I understand! When we went to Sandals Negril in 2001 my wife brought 7 pairs of shoes! I felt like a pack mule at the airport! :)

She brought 1 extra pair this last trip!
