Well kids, I just did a 300' dive, and I think that's about the bottom for me on OC. All that gas, all those bottles to haul around for such a short bottom time... For me, I think I hit the effort/return/risk limit. I don't know if a RB is in my future, and you still need to carry bailout, but it seems that anything deeper just isn't for me unless something changes.

I'd be interested to know if anyone is doing regular dives beyond 300' (non-commercial), and if so, on OC or RB?

Just stumbled into this thread:

Your thoughts and experiences are paralleling what I and the team I dive with have been thinking for the past 2 years. And we are making the switch. We don't do regular dives beyond 300' (I doubt if there is anyone outside the commercial area that can make that claim) but we have come to recognize that we have reached the limit on what we feel comfortable doing on OC and if we want to go deeper we have to switch mindsets. It was either that or abandon our goals. And I wasn't ready to do that.

Interesting, because the tech instructor I had, who was a course director as well, would not certify anyone for trimix who was a smoker.

That's not Brian's pic in his avatar, that's the famous hypnotist, Ravine.

Is this your internet diving qualification?

You shouldn't believe everything you see on the internet.

See, here's how it works- You shouldn't believe that just because there's a picture in my avatar that is is actually me.

Just like I don't believe you actually have any technical training just because you say you do.

:D I'd give you the Ricky response but I know there's no way it would last a second here on SB.

i'm curious to know which RB you and your team decide to go with, and why. thx.

A.

It is nice to bring a Jon line, and attach yourself to the anchor line, if you are on the anchor line. Then with your hands free and not worrying about the current, you can practice valve drills, mask removal and replacement with your spare mask, deploying uplines from your spool, and other such practice routines.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather not shoot a bag while attached to an anchor chain in heavy current.

I think we should all pitch in and get nereas a copy of this. (I have $5 that I have saved from not buying argon!).

Of course just kidding..........

If your still looking for guys that regularly go to 300+ check out sdtechdiving.com they seem to spend most of their time in the 270-320' range.

Must be nice to have that kind of diving budget:(
