Three points for Gilboa:

o Non-diving family / friends would be free unless they go swimming.

This is one of my main draws to Gilboa; It's a DIVE resort for divers, not swimmers or non-divers, or pure campers, or party goers, or sun bathers, or volleyball players, or kids. It's a place where no matter who I talk to, we are on common ground; it's a place where everybody there is there for only one reason. Gilboa has a diving atmosphere, not a "public park" atmosphere.

o Dogs are allowed and have free entry.

I'll probably get flamed for this: I'll never understand why anyone wants to drag their dog along on any outing where there are going to be lots of other people around. I've owned several dogs and never had the desire to take them diving with me. For me, it would be like having an albatross around my neck.

Third, Gilboa has become traditionally the GLWC Meet & Greet place, and people my age don't like a lot of change:D yuk-yuk

That all being said, I really attend M & G because of all of you; you keep me young and even though there is a "generation gap". you all still accept me as part of your "youth" group, and I thank you much for that. I will show up where ever you all decide to hold the gathering.

PS Mitten, Skirt Boy is planning on being there---be gentle.

3. we have this discussion every year for every meetngreet Gilboa always wins. I would like to have it in Key Largo but I know I wont get to many attendees.

I'm up for Key Largo!!!!!!!:pinkdolphin: I'm "warm water wimp" for a reason. Heck, I even own my own shortie, hehe, in addition to my mask and snorkle. :rofl3: If we all pile in to Denny's Prius, it'll only cost $3 each for gas!!!!!!!!!

:fish::palmtree::sharkattack:

Well, Denny There seems to be a lot of splinter cells developing in the group now. So here it is... You, John(mitten Diver) and myself(Barring any quick and sudden trips to Florida.) and oh yeah Skirt boy, will be at Gilboa. On those Dates. Anyone who would like to join us is Welcome.

Sorry Dave you slipped my mind. I didnt sell your spot on the couch yet. So your still good to go.

And since the only way he would sell your spot is to a female you can rest assured that your spot is secure.

Wow, I really need a prius. Just got back from Northern Florida and I think it was about $800 for gas...

Any chance you could drop me off in cave country on the way down and pick me up on the way back?

do the Spring one @ Gilboa and the Fall one @ Whitestar... a compromise where no particular group feels their input doesnt matter...

could always change it back to the Gilboa monopolistic exclusivity if it didnt work out...

1st - I don't know how multiquote works so I'm cutting & pasting.

Ted - "Well, Denny There seems to be a lot of splinter cells developing in the group now. So here it is... You, John(mitten Diver) and myself(Barring any quick and sudden trips to Florida.) and oh yeah Skirt boy, will be at Gilboa. On those Dates. Anyone who would like to join us is Welcome. "

Paula - Please! It's a discussion. I'm not trying to dictate. I'm asking what the majority want. We've taken polls in the past and my recollection is that some have been close. Each quarry has something unique to offer. I frequent Gilboa, Portage and White Star. I like each for different reasons and think as a group the GLWC should promote each. By moving the M&G around we are helping to introduce the newer divers to each of the quarries.

Ted - "The only problem with that is the 2or3 people that actually come to dive have to get in the car and drive over to the dive site. At Gilboa you gear up and go dive whenever. "

Paula - Having the camping separate from the diving actually centralizes people. We can set an area up for diving and hang there all day. We'll have all the SCUBA gear, discussion, planning, decompressing in an area where everyone can set up near one another. All the grills, etc. can be in one place. Around 5 or 6 we can head back to the campground for the potluck and evening festivities. The only time I could see people being at the quarry in a smaller group would be if they wanted to do a night dive. At White Star you drive over to set up to dive. At Gilboa you drive to get your tanks filled.

Ted - "2. People hang out by themslelves by choice every time we say we will be assemblying in the back and what happens only me and john and Katie assemble in the back. They chose to be at on their own."

Paula - I've set up in the back and near the stairs on different M&Gs. Why? There isn't room in the back for much beyond the large campers and John's trailer. That doesn't mean we "CHOOSE" to be on our own. It means we don't want to set up in the woods behind the camper. Given that I and many others set up near the stairs to the dock.

Paula "o Non-diving family / friends would be free unless they go swimming."

Barracuda "This is one of my main draws to Gilboa; It's a DIVE resort for divers, not swimmers or non-divers, or pure campers, or party goers, or sun bathers, or volleyball players, or kids. Paula: Friends and family is a big plus for me. I miss Ray and Libby and their family. & their dog! I'm not always able to dive but I'd like to think I'm welcome. & I know one of our regulars is pregnant right now and thus unable to dive. & another is out for medical reasons. We may not be able to dive but we like to talk diving and have the fellowship.

Paula "o Dogs are allowed and have free entry."

Barracuda: "I'll probably get flamed for this: I'll never understand why anyone wants to drag their dog along on any outing where there are going to be lots of other people around. I've owned several dogs and never had the desire to take them diving with me. For me, it would be like having an albatross around my neck."

Paula - Dogs aren't always my favorite at dive sites but if a dog is well behaved they can be quite fun. & I totally understand if a diver needs to bring a dog with them because it's hard to find a sitter weekend after weekend of diving.

Barracuda - "Third, Gilboa has become traditionally the GLWC Meet & Greet place, and people my age don't like a lot of change yuk-yuk"

Paula - LOL! I love change. Must be my age! & as I said before, I think we are group that represents the Great Lakes REGION and not just Gilboa. We do dive charters throughout the Great Lakes however it's quarry diving where we practice, introduce new divers to the enjoyment of SCUBA and go when wreck diving isn't possible. I think it's wrong for a regional group to associate itself with one quarry. We should promote all the quarries. (& yes, I know there are many other quarries. I picked these 3 as I know them and they are a bit more central to the area represented by the GLWC.)

Paula - who hopes everyone sees this post as something to think about, discuss and not simply flame or dismiss.
