If you think about it carefully I think that you will realize that by surrendering your primary the question goes away. Once you decide to surrender your primary the only person with any interest in where you keep your auxiliary and what sort of auxiliary you use is you.

I have a little rubbery thing like this, the mouth piece fits in the hole:

It was on my BC when I bought it. I presume the shop stuck it on there :p

It works fine, really tough and you can just yank the occy and it will come lose easily but rarely comes out on a dive. I don't the setups where the occy is stuck in a groove (don't know what it is called but basically a clasp goes over the hose) or has a clip over the top as it seems like it would slow down deployment in when an air sharing situation arose.

But yea, planning to move to a long hose set up soon so will have my occy on a necklace like this:

My fiancee doesn't use a long hose yet still keeps her backup reg on a bungeed necklace. It makes sense. She always knows where it is, it won't come loose and drag in the sand and she would know if it ever free-flowed. Connecting it anywhere else presents too many potential problems and the holders on the market always seem to fail. It's also so much easier to donate your primary reg, take the backup from under your chin and still manage your inflator.

Mine (a Mares Rebel) came with a little plug that you mount on to your BCD's D-rings and then attach the octopus to. Works pretty well, keeps it where it's easy to find, keep smudge and silt out of it, and deploys easy if needed.

Has anyone seen the "octo pocket" on the new seaquest BCs? I think its a pretty nifty little feature, and seem like a good place for one when I tried one on...

'Course its not a bp/w, but cool nonetheless.

I found this velcro octo holder to be pretty convenient.
Buy Scuba breakaway octo holder CLIP-1E with reviews at scuba.com

Just slip the loop around the octo hose near the 2nd stage and velcro it to the matching clip, which you can put anywhere on your bc. It seems to stay where you put it, but one yank frees it pretty easily.

Thanks for the responses and input all.

I've decided to go with the bungee/bolt snap to the right chest D-ring for now. We'll try them that way for a few dives and re-evaluate from there.

Thanks again.

My wife and I both use these. Altair

Simple and reliable.

One other "keeper" that I really like (besides the bungee necklace) is a snorkel keeper. Do a double loop around the d-ring, use the open end to stretch around the alternate mouthpiece. Easy to put on, easy to pull out, & CHEAP.

Has anyone tried the magnetic model? I like the fact that it offers a clean breakaway. I have to wonder what it would do to navigation though.
