Help with flights : /

Hey everyone,
A couple friends and I are planning to go down to Roatan in December. I've been down there a couple times with my dad and we always went Sat-Sat so it was no problem to get into Roatan.
Our christmas break starts Sat Dec 13 and then till Christmas is really the only time we can go because winter classes start Jan 4. So it would be really hard for us to leave that Sat 13th right after finals.
Im looking at maybe the Sun-Sun,14-21 or Mon-Mon, 15-22
The flights so far is $755 to fly directly to Roatan from Newark. Stops in San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba then Roatan
I was also thinking about flying into San Pedro Sula for $507 then taking the bus and ferry to get to Roatan. That flight arrives in Sula at noon. Would that give us enough time to get to Roatan that same day?
I guess I'm just asking some advice if it would be worth landing in Sula or is it alot of trouble to get to Roatan. I've never done that before. Or is the extra money worth it to fly right into Roatan?

$323 / 2 = $161

So, for $161 each way, you're going to take a bus, then a ferry, and then pay for a transfer taxi to the resort? Add in the dragging of your luggage. You'll sleep well that night, anyway.

Even with your $755 flight, the difference is $248 rt

Is that extra time in paradise worth $124 to $161 (each way) for you?

It would be a fun adventure, don't get me wrong- but your not the first person to hope to save money by sacrificing time trying to get to the Bay Isands.

and that $830 from Mia to Roatan didnt even include getting to Mia from Newark

and now that I think about it, I totally agree with you that I would rather have more time down there than more time traveling to save some money.

so it looks like my best bet would be taking the flight from Newark to Roatan, even though it doesnt get in till 7 pm : ( but that beats having to lose an entire day on Roatan.

Isn't there a real long layover at the last leg before the flight into Roatan? Shame, really wanted to get back down there. Good luck! Its a great place!

You wouldn't get to Roatan the same day unless you fly from SAP to RTB which will cost $200 return with Central America Airline, Domestic Flights - TACA REGIONAL Airlines

Ofetn sarching for flights from/to Le Ceiba (LCE) uncovers some gems! In this case you can get from LGA to LCE for only $442 round trip arriving le ceiba at 6.20pm. LCE to RTB will only cost about $50, just buy this flight at San Pedro airport when you get there and before you catch the connection to Le Ceiba, a few different airlines offer it (atlantic, SOSA and ISLENA.) Depending on weather you are delayed or not you should make Roatan in one day, but it will be close, you may have to overnight in Le Ceiba which is no real hardship.

You may not feel comfortable only having a flight pre-booked as far as ceiba, but don't worry you'll be able to get the LCE-RTB portion easily at the airport, i do it all the time. WORST CASE, you catch the morning ferry.

Just did in on AA LGA-MIA-SAP / TA SAP-RTB. You need the long layover at SAP (both ways) because the TA flights are subject to same-day schedule changes of up to a couple hours. It's not so bad, especially if you can fly F/J, but then again, I enjoy flying.

Hey I love flying too, I just can't stand long layovers in airports! Now if you want to leave me for half a day in Singapore airport thats a different story
