The nice thing about dive watches are they are great for everday. Spend a little more.

my aqualand is a bit bulky for everyday. of course a nice rolex submariner would be great for everyday. can i find one for $50? ok, i'll splurge, can i find one for $250????. wal mart watches are starting to make a bit more sense perhaps. less money on gear = more money on diving for my check book. don't get me wrong, i have plenty of gear, but i am thinking much of it is pointless.

I already have a really really nice everyday watch. It was a wedding present from my wife and will not be worn diving. So, between that and the Suunto Observer in the drawer that needs a new $100 (eeeek) band, I'm set for daily wear.

So, I went to walmart but I couldn't find the G-shock. I wound up with an $18 armatron for me and a $20 mismarked ironman for my wife. If they explode, they explode.

We will have dive computers too so these are really a backup or the computer is the backup whichever way you want to look at it. Between the two of us, we'll have 4 timing devices so I think we're good.

If you want to know which idiot in the lake cheaped out and is using an $18 timer, I'l be the one with the trashbag BC :)

good choice, well said. let me know how the trashbags go!:crafty:

btw: i have used some interesting items as make shift lift bags over the years: function over form is my thinking.

Go to Walmart get the cheap watches that are good to 100m and you are good to go. I bought 2 of these 5 years ago when I started diving and they have lasted for over 100 dives so far with absolutely no problems. There is no reason you have to spend a lot on a dive watch.

Timex is a good reliable watch. If you do not beat on them they should work fine, I would not be pushing any buttons when you go down to depth. Set it on the surface and away you go. I have one that has an digital compass that I attach to my BC as a back up compass.

One of my buddies dives a casio G-shock. I think he has around 100 dives on it. No problems.

Do a quick search on Sheck Exley ...(if by chance you are unfamiliar with who he is) ...and you will find that he always added an inexpensive watch (or two) to his dive gear. His personal brand of choice was Casio - sometimes a DW6300. I usually add an Armitron WR330 $20.00 at Target and is rated to 330 ft. I'll never know about the 330 ft but I do know it to withstand recreational diving depths and is a nice back up timer. I wish Timex still made the Helix as it also was also a temperature/depth gauge!
