That was taken last week at 85' out of Jupiter, Fl.At what depth?
I was just trying to find something that would bring people in to post in the new forum...I can make a shot that dark in direct sun light.
Yes you need a strobe, but its not because your shots will be black, its more for color rendering.
If you don't have a strobe, digital white balance will go a long way down to about 40 feet.
The reason your shot was black is you used settings that where expecting a strobe without one.
Well, yes if your strobe has not recharged and your camera flash is blocked by the flash link, then you have no flash at all. I put off getting a strobe too long, then put off learning to use it :silly: but I have shot some interesting shots with just the camera flash, even in Puget Sound which is certainly not known for it clarity. Hehe, my first scuba cam was a 1 mp Sealife, no strobe; it was kinda fun.Picture taken before the strobe recharged, and after...
I think your thinking is fine. Shooting in shallow, clear water with good sunlight with just the camera will work well enough for fun. What photoshop do you use on the pics?I've been putting off getting the strobe for a while, but I think I'll add that soon. I'd sure would like to play with one before to see how I like diving with it. Right now I carry the camera just in case I find something I may want to shoot, but if I buy a strobe I may feel like I need to use the camera more to justify it.
What do you think?
