I'll be getting back from about 6mo in Ecuador in a couple weeks and I want to check out diving in my "backyard." The majority of things I've seen related to local diving have however been either lake Rawlings (crowded on weekends, boring and a long bloody drive from Ocean City) or tech related (the boat OC Diver for example lists lots of stuff below 130'). Since I'm not nitrox/trimix certified and I don't really know anyone locally who dives, I was hoping to find some answers here as to what we have in terms of good backyard diving above 130'.

Cheers,
OCBB

Cool Gary, I guess I will see you on the 31st, my wife & I are on the Morgan trip along with a good friend & buddy Andy (Drewski on this & several other boards). I've been on it several times & it always is a treat.

OCBB,

I'm not on ESMD anymore but I'm only just across the line in DE. I'm in the same boat as you in that I don't dive much locally since I haven't sucked it up and bought a drysuit and my buddy doesn't really like DS diving. What I do is head down to NC for the wrecks once or twice a month May through Sept. (heading down this weekend) It's a bit of a ride but the diving is incredible! I have been thinking of trying OC Diver but I'm not ready for >130fsw yet.

BTW, I'm heading to Galapagos next month. Can't wait!

Hi ocbb,
Ther is alot of local diving done here, mostly on the sly from small boats, as well as from the o.c. diver. Ted Green, owner of the o.c.diver does alot of dives that are not tech. He runs a tight ship though, but does offer entry level trips to people he does not know, or can not get refferals on.
The o.c. diver is the center piece of the local diving community, and my advice to you is to get on Teds boat, meet some people and get diving.
Eric

I'd be interested in getting some OC diving in this summer. I do have a drysuit as well as a good 5/6/7. Have been diving NC for a couple of years now, pretty comfortable in the 100'-130' range.

Sussexmedic, where are you diving this weekend. I'll be out with Olympus.

I'll be with Olympus on Sunday. I have something going on Friday night so I had to cancel Saturday. We're heading down Saturday morning to dive Sunday off George's boat. I'll see you there.

Im in Salisbury. Just got back from a 6 day trip to Florida, 4 days of diving. My next local dive is really going to suck, but Im going to do it. I havent been out on the local boats yet but would be willing to do so. I have been to PA a few times and Im willing to make the trip to Rawlings.

Good deal, see you then. Going to the party back at the shop?

I usually head to Rawlings (since I'm originally from Richmond) once or twice a year to work on skills. I'm probably going to hit the DUI Dog Days again this year because I'm gonna have to buy one of these days. I prefer not to go up to Dutch Springs. I want to give some of the local boats a chance but my weekends seem to fill up with NC dives or other travel.
