It does, I'm just not like that and didn't want anyone to think I was. :)

I never saw the advantage of a snorkel in rough or choppy water.

FTR, I don't wear one with scuba and I have heard the rough water thing. What am I missing?

You're missing the experience of really and actually having been in deep dog poop. Think of 8's and 10's that just sweep up on you out of nowhere. You may have 500psi left in your tank but you're saving that in case it really gets ugly.

It is just amazing~ the learning curve in those rare situations. Been there, done that.

I simply have not figured out a decent way to stow it. Clipping it....creates an entanglement hazard. Already dive with a pony and a big camera rig. I heard about folding snorkels. Anyone have experiences with those or any other suggestions on how to carry a snorkel without it being in the way all the time?

Sure. Check post #88 in this thread and ditch the pony. Consider a smaller camera?

A simple folded accordion snorkel, stuck in your BC pocket. What can that hurt?

Last week while doing our morning drop-off dive at Coco View in Roatan I had a learning experience.

At Coco view the second boat dive is a drop-off dive on either Newman’s Wall in the southwest or Coco View Wall in the Northeast side of the channel. You then swim to shore. On this dive we were dropped at Newman’s.

We, group of 4, were coming in with the wall to our left and were at about 90 ft. Somehow, we crossed the channel and were headed out Coco View wall. Bad mistake in that we all assumed the wall was still on our left and didn’t check our compass heading – lesson #2, group consciousness isn’t always right!!

We came up to 45ft at 750psi and surfaced at 500psi, but had gone a fair distance down Coco View wall. I was down to 250psi after the SS.

What would have been a simple surface swim back in the other direction became a pain in the ^%^%^ back swim rafting on the BCDs.

I will never dive again without a snorkel!

I always swim on my back and find it comfortable and efficient and requires no snorkel.

I've always been surprised that a simple snorkel debate can end up in such a heated discussion... every time...:D

Good God people, there are more important issues at hand, like the Mask Placement debacle!!!:rofl3:

Quite amusing though, CARRY ON!

You've got that right. Nothing like the word "snorkel" to spur on a heated debate.

I wanna see a tank explode . . . now that would be good fun . . .

You should be ashamed of yourself.

FWIW, I really like my snorkel. I prefer to breathe out of it than my reg at the surface- no explanations, just my preference. If I swim on my back, I tend to bump into things- and when I turn around to see what it is, it's NEVER a bikini clad Spartan. Can't figure that one out- curse of "the gods" I guess. Plus, I look really, really cool with it attached to my mask.

A snorkel is a girl's best friend.

I'm only diving this way to annoy you.

For the poster who inquired about folding snorkels: Mine is an Aqualung brand that folds into thirds. I have clip on it that I clip to a cable tie that is clipped deep in my BC pocket. It is there if needed. I have only used it once, but it is there for the Next t ime, whenever that is...

At last some comedy,

When I surface swim with my snorkel, I can watch all the bikini's in the water, hopefully not a spartan thought, but maybe some bikini claded amazons and mermaids, :eyebrow: . Just a personal taste. That the real reason I always use a snorkel on the surface swim :crafty:

Sometimes the chop gets pretty bad, and with some wind it can get whipped up and blow alot of water in your face. Breathing through the snorkle under those conditions can keep alot of water out of your mouth.

Those are extreme conditions though. And I should state I don't think having a snorkel is going to save your life, just make life a little more bearable waiting for the boat.

I don't know why people get so worked up over this...

Or the 500 psi thing. In the immortal words of Papabear, "It's MY air!" and "your air is your air!". Breathe it if you need it. It ain't doing any good sitting in the tank...
